I agree. After researching how the spewing thing works, I realized that

A - you need to put in many, as in the whole roll, candies, all at once

B - a soda bottle has an opening about an inch in diameter

C - this is done in a 2 Liter bottle, so there is much soda which will turn into much foam

 

If you freeze the mentos into ice cubes, you have these problems

A - you would normally have two, possibly three ice cubes in your drink

A¹ - the two or possibly three mentos will not be completely exposed to the soda at the same time, but instead will expose gradually as the ice around it melts

B - your normal drinking glass has an opening about 3 inches in diameter

C - you will have possibly 8 or 10 ounces in your glass instead of 65

 

In my opinion, the reaction you would get (if indeed you got any reaction at all) would be similar to the reaction you would get by sprinkling salt in your beer - a slight head on your soda
