Cowboys and Cowgirls,

I need a little help for our son and family. The boy and daughter in law, 2 grandkids have new orders after 4 tours of duty & 12 yrs in California. They are Navy Seabee's and the Navy is moving them to Gulfport Ms. They was wondering about making a stop one night in Amarillo Tx. They are staying in Phoenix tonight, Albuquerque Friday night. Which side of  Amarillo or the safest area. They have 2 vehicles. Then drive on to Home to Owasso, Oklahoma for 5 days with his momma and me . before heading on South to Gulfport Ms.

Albuquerque is known for breakins of moving vehicles and trailers being stolen.  I'd drive to one of the small towns east of ABQ for the night.  Moriarty has more motel options than does Edgewood.  The Sunset Inn in Moriarty allows one to park right in front of your room (its a 60s vintage property).  New Mexico is not California.  You can (and should) drive armed.

I just stayed at the Staybridge Suites in Amarillo on my way back home (MS Gulf Coast) from Cheyenne.

It was a very good hotel. Breakfast was very good for a buffet-style - make your own waffles with fruit toppings.

I would stay there again.

Does your son do CAS? If I can be of assistance on the coast shoot me a PM.

If you don't paying a little more for lodging, most of the local casinos have pretty good overnight security. We often spend the night in a casino  parking lot when traveling in the motorhome.

The motels on the west side of Amarillo are all pretty new and have well lit lots. The east side of town has some new ones also. All along I-40.

Thank you all for responding It means a lot to Kat and me. I have been out fixing something for the Irish Mafaia to have when they get here. It just gets better his ac went out in his cts 2004 Caddie. Her truck is fine, she has 2 large dogs and the 2 munchins with her in her truck. They are in Pheonix tonight and will leave at dawn to beat the heat. I have been on the  computer for hours sending him diagrams. No frost on evapo machine. no fuses blow, Just little light comes on and says AC Off

There is a very nice 50's style (but newly done inside) motel in Santa Rosa called La Mesa, on Route 66 parallel to I-40 .  I highly recommend it, stayed there before driving on in to Founders Ranch for EOT.  Staying in Santa Rosa, one might eliminate stay in ALBQ and get further east from Amarillo.
