Subdeacon Joe Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 They apparently learned the lesson about not modernizing your military. What? Lancers aren't good enough anymore? I'm wondering what happens when those skirts around the tracks pack up solid with clay.
Calamity Kris Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I'm not into tanks but that is an interesting looking vehicle.
Subdeacon Joe Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Looks pretty. But can it fight? Paraphrasing No. 2 from "The Dirty Dozen?"
Utah Bob #35998 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Paraphrasing No. 2 from "The Dirty Dozen?" That's General No 2 to you.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 What? Lancers aren't good enough anymore? I'm wondering what happens when those skirts around the tracks pack up solid with clay. The skirts almost "bottomed out" on the ramp getting onto the trailer. Doesn't look to me like it would be much good in really rugged terrain with obstacle over six inches high.
Dusty Hill, sass # 49256 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I can easlily picture the skirts getting packed with mud, and if the tank is used in a cold climate the tracks freezing up solid if left any length od time. Then if someone tried to move it, the drive train could easily get torn out. Also how can th tracks be adjusted with those skirts? Tracks always need adjusting. I noticed slack in the front of the tracks when turning in the video. Looks like a good idea that could be negated by simple logistics.
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 the deflection of the track , make me think it has a Christy type supenison system , do not think there is enough room behind the skirts to allow for buildup of mud/trash cross country mobilaty will probley be degraded by this , relly need more info to make the assement CB
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 From the video, they have got it to run in the paved parking lot and climb onto a 12" high platform. My John Deere lawnmower will do that. All the other capabilities were demonstrated by video graphics.

Be interesting to see what it is like 2 years down the pike. http://www.janes.com/article/26624/mspo-2013-pl-01-concept-vehicle-unveiled
DocWard Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I had to replay the video to get the general's name. When I first heard it I thought "General Numb what??" I'm not a DAT, but I would agree, those tracks do look like they have a lot of slack and the skirts pretty much render it useless on anything but a flat surface. However, it is a concept vehicle, and if they move forward with the project, I would think those things would get worked out.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 The General said they didn't even really have an engine for it yet. Essentially a mockup. Might be something in 2 years. Might not.
Texas Lizard Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 This may be for city and street fighting....Not on battle fields of passed... Texas Lizard
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Next time it will take Germany two days to get to Warsaw.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 This may be for city and street fighting....Not on battle fields of passed... Texas Lizard Then they have really screwed up. A tank is not a good street fighting weapon. Especially in the narrow streets and alleys of old European cities. Tanks are for speed and manueverability. The infantry is for street fighting. Or nukes.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Why are they supplying modular armor add-on kits? Did they run out of sand bags?
Utah Bob #35998 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Why are they supplying modular armor add-on kits? Did they run out of sand bags?Must be a secret technique they have. Everybody else uses reactive armor these days.
