McCandless Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 It's been a long, long, time since I've wandered into the Saloon. (Miss Molly, I'll have some of that Arbuckles please). I just spent an enjoyable time watching the pilot for the TV show "The Magnificent Seven", that ran two glorious seasons, once upon a time. Starred Johnny Ringo as "Chris". The Guns were all period to the mid-to-late 1870s... lots of Cap n' ball pistols, Dragoons, 'cut-down '51 pocket pistol, Colt's SAA's, Remingtons, External Hammered Doubles,a musket version of a '73, lots of '66's and period correct holster rigs. Not a Buscadero in the bunch! Good acting, great cinematography, good action... They done it right. (I want a rig like Mike Biehn wore in this!) Lots of good lines for stage writing! Think I'll sip some coffee and watch another episode...sure better than the morning news! Y'all are welcome to join me at m' table, I think miss Molly's fryin' up some bacon! I see you keep Duke Chisum's chair empty and polished, a fresh cigar in the ashtray in front of it. A fitting tribute to one of our pards who was here at the beginning. Wonder if any of the real old timers are still around? Coffee's on me! Duc McC
J. Mark Flint #31954 LIFE Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I'll take a cup of coffee and offer you a welcome back. I don't qualify as an old timer, having only been here a little over 11 years, but I guess that leaves me somewhere between a newbie and an old timer. I miss Duke and look forward to seeing the guys from Saloonatic Posse One up at Mississippi Fandango again this fall. One thing about heaven, they sure have a heck of a good posse up there.
Grizzly Dave Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I'm far from an old timer here, but howdy! Grizz
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Good morning and welcome back, Mr. McCandless. I am not sure what constitutes an old timer, but I have been around the farm for a while. A lot of empty chairs in here and even the old Saloon is gone to make way for "progress". Like J. Mark, I guess I am kinda halfway. Anyway pull up a stool and have a drink. We still like to put the drinks on someone tab other than our own. I think maybe Spanish Bit Bobb might be good for a round.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Some are old timers. Some are jest old. Might there be a wee dram of Irish to go in the coffee? Bit of a chill here this mornin.
Spanish Bit Bobb Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 you betcha! we miss our ol' Amigo Duke.
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Howdy Pard, Nice post! Not sure what makes one an old timer. My SASS number is lower than yours, so maybe I'm one. It took me a while to find the War, ah er, I mean Wire and even longer to find the Saloon (ACS). Great gang here! my pards! Allie Mo
Ned Buckshot, SASS #2901 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Good Mornin' all. Ya I remember the old days! And rememberin' the old days I think we should put this round on Patches tab!
Guest EL NEGRO GATO #8178 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Welcome back, are you the McCandles that has a web site on cowboy shooters? If so can you send me the link Regards ENG
McCandless Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Heard from Miss Patches recently, and she's doin' fine. Miss Spiffy se "Hi!", too. Mark, I remember many a story written about the dusty streets of Toostone... many a Saloon brawl. Pull up a chair, I'll see if someone still has the old Blue Deck. Duc McC
J. Mark Flint #31954 LIFE Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Put it on Flint McCloud's tab-too damn many Flint's around here these days (I seem to recall a similar sentiment from Flint Westwood when I showed up and understand it better now)
Sierra Jack Cassidy, SASS 14336Life Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Hey Doc, how are ya? J. Mark, I believe Doc was on the second Saloonatic Posse One at Fandango... was it 2000 Doc? I have the 1999 Posse One pic with Flint Westwood, Tex Boden, Duke Chisum, Chip Tosser, Swede D, Molasses, Mack Weston, Dapper Dan, Marshal Rusty, Strawberry Lars and me... don't know why Timberline ain't in the pic, she was there too. Can't find the pic from the next year, you got it Doc? Judge Roy Bean was there too, but he didn't shoot... we let him tag along with us though . Cassidy
Capt. James H. Callahan Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Howdy Doc, Good to see ya again. Yep, them old days was shinin' times. It's still pretty good, quite a cast of characters, even if most of them have changed in 10 years. Sure lost a lot of good ones since then.....Duke, Gunny, Boston John, Suzi Silknickers, Zeb. Sigh. You may recall we posse'd at EoT back in '04 I believe it was with Tex Boden, Pat Riot, Gunny, Miss Rocky, Duke, Mayobard, and probably some I'm missing. What a hoot! Remember Gunny set two props on fire with his shotgun? Yep, shinin' times for sure. JHC
Finagler 6853 Life Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 We are still out here Doc. I read Russ's lament and kinda agree with him. The old timers are fading into the wood work. I check the wire most everyday out of habit but don't post much anymore. I'll take a shot of Arbuckles myself and deal me in. I haven't done much shooting this year at all and it doesn't look like I'll be doing much next year either. People are coming from all over the place wanting me to do this and volunteer for that. I'm pleased and honored but I'd rather they just left me alone so I can ride the trails and go to a shoot every once in a while. I'm going to the Fandango for sure but after that it will be hard to get my frame of mind straight. As I sit here I see Fandango posse pictures of yore. Duke is missing, Greeenriver,,,,,,,, It all makes me sad. Molly, on second thought, bring me a bottle of your best tequila. I have some memories I want to drown.
Pit Bull Tex Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I am not a old timer in SASS just old. I stop by every day to hear the stories and the talk.Wish I would have been in Sass when I was younger . So many years I have missed to meet the real good people in sass and in the Saloon. Some of the stories that start on here I hate when they stop.Bless you all. Nice to meet you Doc.Pit Bull Tex
Lizzie Marie, SASS #19774 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I still check in but don't post much, ok not hardly ever...good to see everyone
Lizzie Marie, SASS #19774 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Welcome back, are you the McCandles that has a web site on cowboy shooters? If so can you send me the link Regards ENG Yes he is....and a great site it is also.....
Chip Tosser SASS#27040L Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Hey Doc, Good to see you, Miss the ol gang. I'm still hold'n the "blue deck" got near bouts 75 or 80 cards in it by now. Hehehe.... I won with it awhile back.... Beat a royal flush with Swede D's tigger card. Hard to convince them fellas that that was the rules, but after a few drinks of Flint's private stock, they come around. I drop by here on occasion, look around, see alot of new faces having fun, and that's good, just feel a litle out of place. Would like to get together with the ol gang sometime, just to sit around and swap lies. We need to work on that. Take care Amigo, and have a drink on me... Yea, I said ME,,,, bout wore out Flint'n Bodies tabs... Bottles shut me off cause they wouldn't pay no 6 digit tabs. See ya down the trail
Bama Red Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Howdy, McCandless! Good to see you back - stick around a bit this time. Oh, yeah - have a drink on me.........on J. Mark's tab, of course!
FancyFree#23612L Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Darlin it is GREAT to see you. Footloose and I were just talkin about the "old" times in the Saloon (ACS) and the fine stories we used to have. Mutant worms comes to mind, along with getting all the Christmas trees. Sure do miss them. I'll have a cup of Arbuckles, and can I have the peppermint stick? Chip you KNOW you are always welcome at Fandangreattime And I even still have some coffee jerky. Sure do miss all the ones that have gone on, but at least we still have the memories
