J.D.Ironsmith Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Trying to find a good powder for my 32's Will Clays work? Live out in the sticks and it ain't like I have a huge bunch of choices, and if I order it I want to make sure I get something that works well.
Marshal Stone, SASS #53366 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I'm using VV N320. Although it is getting harder and harder to find. Send me a PM if you want the data. Marshal Stone
Gold Canyon Kid #43974 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Have been using Bullseye for both 32 S/W L and H and R mags for many years with no issues. If using a Dillon use extra small powder bar and will be exact every single time.
Jack Houston # 35508 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 When the wife shot 32's I used Nitro 100
Frederick Jackson Turner Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Clays should work fine; I preferred Titegroup or VV N-320. Cheers, FJT
Oklahomabound Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Ms. Mary Matilda's .32 H&R Magnum are loaded with Trail Boss..... does fine
Buffalo Dick, SASS #12880 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 For smokeless cowboy loads I've used Bullseye and VV310 with .32 S&W Long brass.
Cheatin Charlie Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 For SASS I loaded bullsye, a little goes a long way.
Cumberland Mtn John SASS#40593 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hi There, Been using Bullseye for 10 years now in both .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R magnum. The loads have taken down every knockdown I've faced. Cumberland Mtn John
Wolf Wind-Walker #36748 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 J. D. - I have used Clay's and Titegroup and Trail Boss........... Clay's and Trail Boss are a bigger flake powder and may not measure consistant depending on what reloader you have......... Titegroup is finer grain and does have a louder report (Bang) - which may be needed depending on how well your spotters can hear...??? I like Trail Boss my self because it loads well for me and I can see how much is in the case.......but I do switch back and forth depending on what powder I have on hand.......... So - maybe buy a small can (1-lb )of each and see what works best for you........ Regards...Wolf
Awful Close Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 ACCURATE POWDER # 2 Flows like a dream thru both my Hornady auto measure powder thrower and my Dillon auto measure powder thrower
Marauder SASS #13056 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Win 231 or HP-38 is also a good one for 32's.
Wyandot Jim Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Win 231 or HP-38 is also a good one for 32's. Yep I have won some wood with 231 and 700X. Works for me and doesn't take much. Wyandot
Buck D. Law, SASS #62183 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Clays will work and is one of the least expensive, if not the least expensive, powders out there. I've seen it be sensitive to cold. I use Titegroup for all cartridge loads, but as you can see, there are many powders that will do the job.
Ugly, SASS #18106 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I shoot .32 H&R Magnums and load on a Dillon Square Deal "B"; I use Trail Boss and if I can see the powder in the shell casing I know the powder dropped the proper charge into the case.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 One national champion who shoots locally uses Clays in her 32s. My wife likes Bullseye in hers. She used Unique (it worked fine) but found her hands cleaner after a day of shooting Bullseye.
Rattler Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 VV N-320! I tryed the rest, they just don't compare.
J.D.Ironsmith Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Thanks for all the replies. I have made a list of what has been mentioned and I will head to town and see what is available. I have been using Clays for my .357's and 45's, but can't find ANY data for it with the 32's (bit concerned about getting consistent metering at such a light charge out of my old RCBS powder measure) The powder measure has done fine over the years, but I have never tried anything as light as what the 32's will call for. Thanks again, J.D.
Ugly, SASS #18106 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Thanks for all the replies. I have made a list of what has been mentioned and I will head to town and see what is available. Thanks again, J.D. J.D., what I do to ensure that I have peace of mind is I bought an inexpensive fish tank motor (@ $5) and banded it onto my powder measure tube; the vibration makes sure that there is no bridging of the powder and I always get a uniform powder drop.
Huckleberry Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I have liked using either VV N 320 and Winchester WST. Both are a smaller grain size powders and meter with small charges consistantly and burn clean. They work great in 38s too.
Goliath, SASS #41359 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I use Bullseye with consistent performance - a 1 pound can will last a long time - I expect about 5000 rounds or so. I have used Titegroup, and it works equally well
Capt. Morgan Rum, SASS #6859 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 For my significant other's 32 Rugers I load unique or triple 7.
Chisler Wood Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 When I load them.....I use VVN320 seems to burn up everything.........
Pee Wee #15785 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I use 777 or red dot, the young lady shooting the red dot went from a novice and last place to finishing in the top 3 slots before Fall stopped her going to shoots because of school.
TENNESSEE DEADEYE SASS# 26785 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 American Select or Vita Voruhi N320, both work well.
