Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Rain is pouring down like a cow with a flat rock. Momma is feeling poorly. Fishing is out for this week. Can't make the shoot on Saturday. Been watching flicks on dressing fishing flies. Now I got summer on the lake fever. Aside from drunking, anybody got a fix? I suppose I could bake some cookies and have cookies and milk.

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Rivers got blown out with the little rain showers we got. I might take Capt Jack to the river later today and see if there is any color in the water. Cud take a spare casting rod with some spinners on it. Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
A fisherman's prayer Lord, I am grateful for all that You do. For the clear lakes to fish and the warm sunshine too. You send the rain to make the rivers fill. And that little cascade stream that runs down the hill. And the bugs and worms that the fish like to eat. And the little crawfish for a special treat. So I sit at my table with thread and my vise and dream of the time when the lake is free of ice. I wrap the bright tinsel round the thin dark hook, Wrap the dull feathers for that filling look. The rod and reel stand ready to go. Just waiting for an end to the deep winter snow. The fish are waiting just hankering for a chance to sample my offering or just give it a glance So I will sip my warm cocoa with a smile on my face. And and thank you Lord for that warm sunny place. Pack Saddle Slim, SASS #73122
I used to tie flies during the winter months as a cure for cabin fever. Now that my eyes are so bad that I can't see to tie them little #18's, I have my sons do all my tying for me. Besides, they're a lot better fly tyers than I ever was. Now, I mainly get out all the sharpening stones and every knife in the house....kitchen knives, pocket knives, huntng knives, ad infiitum. Then I get a nice cozy fire going in the wood stove, and sharpen everything to my heart's content. Then when I eventually finish those, I move on to the camp axes. When everything is finished and fairly sharp, I start all over again. Needless to say, come spring, all knives at the ol' home place are razor sharp. My wife thinks I'm OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Tell me it ain't so!!
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
IT AIN'T SO, PACKSADDLE. At least I hope not, or I am in trouble. I just went through a knife sharpening exercise this morning. I could do that Carolina, but most of my bullets don't always go bang I make them that way for the surprise effect. When it goes bang, I yell, SURPRISE! It makes Willie jump.

I just went through a knife sharpening exercise this morning. Thanks, Badger! She had me going for awhile there, but when I told her that I couldn't be OCD 'cuz my ol' pard Badger does the exact same thing, she just rolled her eyes, shook her head, and walked into the next room without saying anything. That doesn't bother me so much. It's the uncontrollable laughter that has me concerned. Hmmm. Wonder what all that means.

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
We have a ton of water coming out of the skys tonight. The rivers will all be blown out for a few days and rising. Most likely colored beyond fishable. I just bought some surgical tubing for my steelhead rig today. Guess it will have to wait for better times. Good news is that it might bring some bright fish in.

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
They are hard enough to catch and do not need any help at all. I have been fishing for steelies for a lot of years and I have only met three of them face to face and about five more with a long line release. Salmon are not as quick. They will take a herring or a squid without thinking about it twice. An metalhead will sit and admire your offering all day and then just swim off. Nothing is a frustrating as to see one of those fellows sitting in a clear pool behind a log waiting for a tempting morsel to drift by and then when the fly or plug arrives, turn and swim off like he owns the pool. Well, I guess he does. But it keeps me coming back for more.

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
That may be true, but how much can you enjoy eating a bug for lunch. My offerings are much more exciting. Like a gourmet meal. Bird feathers and string. LOL Ah yes, an acquired taste. Like olives. Or garlic pickles. I mean they would have to sell their souls for a garlic pickle.. no doubt about it.. They can't exactly go to Vons and buy a jar.. A bug for lunch, sounds small even to me.. lol.. Even with a nice strong mustard, still kinda light, huh? lol. Yeah, they would go for the bird feathers if they smelled like garlic I am sure of it.. lol
