I heard a couple of younger coppers chatting about this the other day.

Has anyone ever seen a match, or shot one?

I'm afraid I'm about 30 years and 20 pounds too late to play. But I wouldn't mind watching one for a change of pace.

I read about this before. There are also sniper competitions where you have to travel over miles of terrain finding targets. You have to haul all of your gear with you.

Do you have to avoid countersniper fire?

No, I have a stuntman for those scenes

Looks like something special forces and seals do for fun

Some years ago I came to the conclusion that anything that is called tactical is idiotic and you need to stay away from it.

Whether it is a tactical gun or a tactical knife or tactical pants or a tactical flashlight, or tactical games.

It reminds me of various contests held within the military and law enforcement communities. Take any group of professional Alpha men and women and it’s only natural for them to compete and see who’s best. I’m happy for them and impressed by their skills.

I’m even happy for the accountants, lawyers, baristas, gamers, whatevers who buy gear called “tactical” and compete in these contests on weekends.  As long as they’re staying safe and keeping the game in perspective, more power to them.

I agree. Any shooting sport that gets folks off their couches and out to a range is a win-win. People have fun and the shooting industry stays alive. And hopefully convert some into the pro-gun camp (and vote accordingly).

Still waiting to see if anyone here has any first hand knowledge of one of these events. As a spectator or participant.

According to their website, the Arizona regional match is coming up on February 22 in Sierra Vista.

When I left the Navy and moved to L.A.I started going to indoor shooting ranges with a new friend. He was also Navy. We learned of these tactical matches put on by members of the LAPD SWAT Team.
They were handgun only and the handgun was typically a 1911.
They weren’t as hardcore as the link Dom posted but they weren’t for the “stand and deliver” set, for sure.

I truly enjoyed these matches. They were hard on your body, but really fun. I was getting really good at it when LAPD Management put an end to the SWAT guys conducting matches on public lands with “civilians”. Truly a Bummer.

If I were physically capable I would love to give these “Tactical Games” a try.

And @Alpo you might think the tactical trend is silly, but I am sure these “games” were derived from ex-military folks that served our country.  It doesn’t hurt having government types seeing “We the people” doing things that show we aren’t a bunch of sheep as well. The “silly” tactical types might just save our asses one day.
