When all else fails, go to the TV news

A girl raised some chickens. Showed her chickens at the fair. Sold her chickens, for just over $2,000. Put the money in the bank.

The bank closed her account. Chase.

They said there was something suspicious about the check from the buyer. The buyer went to the bank, three different times, to try to get them to give the girl her money.

Over a year goes by. Finally the girl's parents go to the local television station and it goes on the news.

And the bank is falling all over themselves to give her her money.

When I was going to college in Houston back in the early 70s, there was a guy named Marvin Zindler on local Channel 13 who specialized in stuff like this.

My family has had two experiences with financial institutions that made the news.

One on the local news and one, involving my Mother and Dad, that went national, in Canada, on W5, but was not as dramatic as the one I'll relate here.

Just embarrassing and very troublesome for the financial institution involved and resulting in a change in regulations affecting their business and their clients.

The local featured the lady I became POA for being brought into her bank, from a non-critical patient transfer ambulance, parked in the NO PARKING zone in front of the bank, on a gurney, complete with medical attendants, because the Financial Officer of the bank would not accept the Provincial Power Power of Attorney forms signed and notarized by the hospital staff, but insisting she come in and sign his forms.

No amount of explaining she had an Upper Lobe, Bi-Lateral stroke was immobile and speech impaired and was still in the hospital, awaiting placement in a Long Term Care Home would move him.

The Hospital Social Workers and her attending physician called etc. to no avail.

OK then said the Social Worker. We'll do that. We'll bring her in! *

She then called the local TV station and made arrangements.

TV crew filmed the whole thing and tried to get Debbie to say a few words, but she could not and it was left to me to explain what had happened.

The bank manager refused to comment as did the Financial Officer.

Funny how those kinds of human interest/revelations hitting the airways wake people up and get the attention of someone in authority.

The story about the girl with the chickens initially sounds like she raised a lot of chickens and sold enough to make over $2000. That would be a lot of chickens and a lot of work. But then it goes on to say that she raised the 6 chickens for the fair and they were auctioned off for the money. That's far less work then the article made it sound like at first

The amount of work is irrelevant.

If my Great Aunt Susie dies and leaves me $2,000, I didn't do anything to get it. No work at all. It's still my money. And if the bank didn't give it to me when I asked for it, that's wrong.

This little girl's only mistake was waiting a year to go to the media.   I would have recommended setting up a lemonade stand in front of the bank with some big posters claiming that Chase stole my chicken money.  I would tell everyone who stopped by about the story and give them a free glass of lemonade.  I would add $300 to the bill for every day I had to sit out there passing out lemonade.  When I didn't have any customers, i would be posting on social media and sending complaints to the banking regulatory commission.  Nothing like bad publicity and a cute little girl to make them care.

Yes. It doesn't have anything to do with the issue with the bank. But to make her appear even more sympathetic they worded the story as they did.

Wait a minute, you're saying that the media told a story in such a way to influence the way people thought about it? SHOCKING!

It sounds like Chase withdrew the funds from the checking account, then held them.  I would've contacted the issuing bank that funded the check, then  police, then the investigation news team.  Skip the lemonade stand as the physical branch is 3 hours from home.
