Rover SASS 28073L
I planning to send a rifle if and when it sells. Which is the best service? I know I will have to send it to a FFL holder to receive it for the buyer. Are there any other requirements, as it has been years since I have done this. I want to follow current requirements to the letter! Thank you for your help. Rip Snorter
IMHO, depends on your area and destination. I'd check for online complaints for both areas, esp in regard to firearms.
Sedalia Dave
You can ship it yourself via USPS. It does have to ship 3 day Priority Mail with Signature required. Another inexpensive option is to use ShipMyGun.com
Cholla
Send it using shipmygun.com which in turn uses UPS. UPS now requires the shipper to have an FFL. Shipmygun.com is part of Buds Gunshop. Follow the easy directions and save close to 50% on shipping costs. No need to take it to an FFL as SMG is the FFL. Shawnee Hills
Also recommend ShipMyGun. It will need dropped off at a UPS Customer Service Center and don’t forget to include a copy of your DL in the package. Their rates are very competitive. Another option is to have a dealer ship it for you but that will cost extra. The USPS has become anything but reliable around here so we avoid them at all costs. FedEx is equally as terrible. Of course, your experience with these entities might be a bit more positive.

Palo Alto Kid
Word of caution with USPS… I had a very difficult time attempting to ship a C&R shotgun to an FFL/gunsmith. The desk clerk was very courteous and friendly, however, he declined to accept the SG from me without proof that I was a ‘licensee.’ The supervisor, referencing what appeared to be a locally generated guidance binder concurred and informed me USPS does not accept any firearm from non-FFL…. Against my better judgement I persisted, and after opening and reviewing both the ATF and then USPS website citing USPS’ own guidance and some friendly debate, the supervisor disappeared for about 10 minutes, returned and accepted the package. Keep in mind this was at a major regional distribution center, not an out-of-the-way post office. To add insult to injury, I paid the $$ required for priority shipping and signature, only to have the package disappear for 28 days before finally arriving at the destination. I wondered if I’d ever see it again, as USPS tracking ceased until delivery. Next time around I’ll pay a little extra. And have my local FFL ship or try ship my gun. If you do decide to use USPS, have a printout of the regs handy or access to the website for quick reference. Again, the postal staff were courteous and friendly, just unaware of their own policy.

It’s been a few years when I used USPS to ship a rifle from Indiana to a FFL in Ohio. Federal law prohibited USPS from asking “What’s in the package?” 1

Rye Miles #13621
I always use my LGS to ship a firearm. I pack it up and they ship it out . You do have to leave it open so they can put their FFL copy in the box. It’s a little extra but the LGS makes a little bit for their efforts.

Dacotua
I recommend everyone get a FFL Collector C&R, its 30 bucks for 3 years. You can get discounts from brownells and numrich (Not midway however). Plus you can throw a copy of it in the box when you ship things at UPS or USPS (They see the FFL, and they'll just accept it.) (Yeah I know, I've shipped stuff in the past with it and showed the UPS clerk the FFL paper, even though it was a modern firearm. Its not against the law for you to ship a gun, but it helps with clerks that don't know any better). Plus if you do buy any C&R firearms, you can ship it directly to your house. My wife likes it since I own a lot of guns and if the police for some reason raided our home, what are they going to publish in the news? Man had a arsenal of guns without a FFL. They won't say that with me when I have a FFL - Collector, C&R. Sounds kind of stupid, but my wife likes me having it. (Man has a lot of guns, but he has a FFL as a Collector). Doesn't have that ring the news likes.

ORNERY OAF
Topk a rifle I sold on here today at a local FFL. He charged 65 bucks AND a 35$ transfer fee.....I told the a-holes that they were not doing a transfer and the shop on the receiving end will do the 4473 with the guy getting the gun. He said that's just our policy, I asked what transfer he was doing, he said well we have to put it in our books. I had some choice words and those dirt bags will never get another dollar from me, and I spent a large sum in there quite often...
