Rye Miles #13621 Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Did ya ever try counting how many shots the rifleman shoots in the opening scene? Well thanks to the internet here it is!!
Cypress Sun Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Sure wasn't as many spent brass as shots. I counted four.

Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 If my rememberer is right, he fires ten, but they dubbed in another gunshot to make it match the music.

Father Kit Cool Gun Garth Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 I'm going to play Devils Advocate here. The exact number can't be calculated based on the video itself. Here is why: As the Rifleman walks while shooting, watch the movement of his legs as he shoots. He cocks and shoots as he moves his left leg, then his right leg. The video angle changes after his recorded 7th shot, when he now appears full body instead of the previous close-up shot. At the time his 7th shot is recorded, his left leg is forward of his body, then when the video changes angles, his left leg is already behind him. If the same video was not edited other than splicing the two scenes together, there had to be at a minimum, another shot taken to allow his left leg to at least move from being forward of his body to halfway back to account for it being behind him when the video changes. My best guess would be a total of 14 rounds fired. Just my thoughts on it.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Perhaps it was two different sequences of more than six spliced together.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Allow me to be the spoil sport. Should ya peek, at no time is the trigger finger inside the lever. The screw appliance for the trigger is quite visible once you know what to look for. Then we have the key questions. What difference does it make ?? Who really cares ?? Can some folks actually count past 10 ??. Will an 1892 Carbine actually hold more than 10 ?? "Five-In-One" Blanks ?? Was the Armorer a Girl ?? How come his pocket isn't bulging with cartridges ?? Is he gonna be late for dinner ??

Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Didn’t he have a lever that activated the trigger? Not SASS legal

Not SASS legal Yes he has a screw that he can adjust to push the trigger when he levers it. In an episode tonight he backed the screw off to teach a young guy how to shoot. They operated the gun just like normal then he adjusted the screw back. Pretty neat operation even for Hollywood.

Thought I remembered that.
Rip Snorter Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Annie Oakley did the same thing, with just her thumb. Good show, though and a neat trick.
