Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I have two Uberti 1873 revolvers that have been rebarreled to 44-40 from 45 Colt. The front sights on both have come off and are lost. I have replacement sights. I have had no luck with JB Weld. Any recommendations as to who can replace them. Thanks.
G W Wade Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I did an emergency repair to a friends Ruger with Locktite Black Max. Been 3 years now. GW
Sedalia Dave Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Snake Oil George can easily fix those. Someone should be able to PM you his contact info.

Marauder SASS #13056 Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 You could also go to Ahlmans gunsmiths in Minneapolis. https://www.ahlmans.com/

GW When I was working at a shop that did some warranty repairs, they we used Black Max. They weren't my guns so can't say how long it lasted. But I suggest finding someone relatively close if you want to have a 'smith work on them. Shipping two handguns just for front sights will be rather expensive.
Rye Miles #13621 Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I’ve always thought they need to be TIG welded. A gunsmith did that on an Uberti years ago. I’m not even sure what that is but it worked.

Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461 Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 silver solder by a gunsmith is best as it flows all the way around the sight.
Rip Snorter Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Kind of off the wall, but if you have a friendly, small town jewelry shop, they can silver solder. A local one fixed a favorite pair of no longer manufactured shooting glasses - silver soldered good as new.
Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 The local store has a gun smith who will work on the guns. I don't know why I didn't ask there in the first place.
