Rifle and pistol socks / sleeves

I have been looking for treated sleeves or socks for my cowboy guns, and was wondering what others use. I have been looking at http://borestores.com/and also regular sock type http://www.midwayusa.com/product/939460228/midwayusa-silicone-treated-rifle-and-shotgun-gun-sock . What do you use for transport and storage to protect your firearms from dings and moisture?

I have a good portion of my guns in my safes in the midway treated socks. They work good. They make a version for ARs too. I keep my Sass guns in them. The 73 hammer hangs up most of the time though.

For transport, I use hard cases with foam inserts with desiccant packs. For storage I have a safe with heaters in it. For dings, I'm having my guns engraved... One scratch at a time. At the range I do sometimes use lined sleeves from WoodenWestWorks.com, if I think there's a potential for dirt and sand to get blown in them on windy days, or if it's raining.

Howdy BartEnder, for transport I use hard cases or padded zippered cases, storage in a safe. If I was gonna use a gun sleeve for moisture protection I would use Bullfrogs. Been using alota their products for years here on the coast, they perform as advertised..... Good Luck :)

Bart, measure your guns length. Also remember that scoped guns will be wider. Go here http://borestores.com/

and see what sizes will work for you. I usually buy them from dealers at the gun shows or

through Midway etc. You can order them directly from Bore Stores also.

German Jim,

What size would you recommend for a 80 - 20" 1873 Uberti straight stock and a 20" Baikal SxS? I am looking for something to protect my guns from an overcrowded safe and to help when transporting them in my hard sided case to and from the range. Thanks!

I am in the process of selling my home, so my guns are at my brothers house for the moment. I guess I will have to stop being lazy and just go over there and measure everything out. I appreciate all the help from everyone.

  • 2 weeks later...

I went ahead and ordered 2 Bore Store P-4 sleeves and 1 P-3R sleeve. I will see what fits the best and I am sure I will be able to use all 3 sleeves. I will post as to what guns fit into each sleeve. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

I use the Bore Stores bags for all my toys, while they are in storage in the safe,

I like the rust preventive the bags are supposed to have, while minimizing some of the dings and scratches

Travelling, I use soft cases.

If my guns do get a few dings and scratches, I don't fret about. They're a tool to me and things happen to them.

Just gives them more character.

I was more talking about for storage, but possibly for transport as well. I generally use a Browning Pelican style case for transport, but some extra padding in the hard case while in transit couldn't hurt anything. I am not too concerned with a few wearmarks as I too look at these items as tools. My safe is currently overloaded, so my guns tend to touch each other in the safe, so if some moisture develops in the safe, where the guns are touching will most likely rust. I appreciate all the input from everyone.

I got a chance to place some guns in the Bore Stores Sleeves. The P3-R fits my RNV 4 3/4 or my LCRx 3". The RNV is a snug fit, but I think it will work fine. The P-4 fits my Glock 22. Browning Buckmark, or 1911 gov. I am planning on ordering more of these storage sleeves as they seem to be constructed well and will prevent my guns from banging together and becoming damaged due to moisture. I meant to take pictures, but was in a hurry. I will try and update with pictures when I have a chance. NOTE: The P3-R will not fit a 5 1/2 cowboy gun!!!

The sack ups are impregnated with silicon I spray my guns with Amsoil mp before putting them in the socks normally.it bonds with the metal of the gun and the excess gets soaked up by the socks.
