Great Hollwood Gunfights

Recommended Posts

My wife & I were watching L.A. Confidential last night which has a great gunfight at the end. Except for the weapons and early 1950s wardrobe, It could have a classic western gunfight. It was very well done.

What other non-western gunfights would you add to the list?

The recent Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich movie RED. Lotsa automatic weapons fire. Helen Mirren looks awsome letting go with an M2HB.

Fingers (There just wasnt any smoke though) McGee

I love Michael Mann films for shootout's

Last of the Mohican's

Heat

Collateral

He pays a lot of attention to the details, they actually reload and train the actors on how to handle a gun!

Seeing "Last Of The Mohicans" caused me to buy a flintlock Kentucky rifle from Taylors. I suspect I'm not the only one who got bit by that bug either.

The great gunfights in Bruce Willis's "Last Man Standing", directed by Walter Hill, are long and a throwback to the days of Sam Peckinpah.

Great movie. The last 20 min. is excellent. Daniel Day Lewis really looked like he knew what he was doing.

The gunfight in the bar in Desperado with Antonio Banderas. Kind of hinky in that anyone shooting at him, even with automatic weapons, seems to miss while he hits everyone he shoots at. Typical Hollyweird BS, but still a gunfight.

When the CIA guy rams the car and Willis steps out and starts walking at the guy shooting, reloads, shoots, reloads, etc. is great. It's BS, but it's great BS.

That's a staple in Hollywood gunfights, right along with gazillion round magazines.

I'll add two gangster movies to the list which had several well-staged gunfight scenes: "Bonnie & Clyde" and "Public Enemies"

Madigan with Richard Widmark, 1968.

The final close quarters gunfight in the apartment is realistic and brutal.

I'd have to add Ronin, The Professional, Tears of The Sun, We Were Soldiers, The Kingdom, Saving Private Ryan, 2000 Miles to Graceland, Boondock Saints (1 & 2) and Smokin' Aces (1 & 2).
