Saw this one on the tailgate of a pickup not long ago.

"My other ride is a Mustang." with a pic of a P-51 banking in a shallow dive.

Lucky dog. I've only SEEN one Mustang.

Then how about one of these?

P-82 Twin Mustang

I think I saw one of those at the CAF (CONFEDERATE Air Force) Museum in Midland, Tx back in about '94. Too cool!

Gulfstream will set you back close to 20 mill for a G2, a G5 about 40 mill

NOW I remember why I never bought a airplane!

JHC  (What MIGHT could buy a new set of tires for one!)

How would you fly that critter. I see two pilots in the cockpits.

Same as pilots and copilots do in airliners. The only difference is that these guys are sitting really far apart!

The idea was to have two pilots to share the flying on long range missions where the bulk of the time was spent flying to and from the target.

The CAF twin Mustang was recently acquired by the USAF, she now sits in Dayton, the AF filed suit to return the aircraft as they claimed ownership

The Navy did the same thing a few years back with an F4F that an owner in my area had restored to flying condition. Basically what it came down to was, "We'll pay you a fraction of what you have invested in it, or we'll just take it anyway."

The F-86 video on UTube claims that you can get an F-86 for $65,000.

That sounds like a bargain, compared to the price of a P-51!

Yep, but unfortunately there's a world of difference in what it takes to keep 'em flying. LOTS of $$$$$ and expertise. Ya can't tear down an old turbine and rebuild it like a piston engine. That's why the old jet warbirds are so rare.

BTW, I got to see an F-86 and MiG-17 fly together a few years ago. Very cool.

JHC, I just happen to be a Col. in the CAF. We have several P51's, including a rare B Model which is part of the Minnesota Wing, which I am a member of. You need to attend the Airsho in Oct. You see all kinds of Warbirds. Col. Jim Reed CAF #21653 aka Texas Lawdog

Good on ya for gettin' the name right, Cap'n~! ;)

Fella in the office shows up one day drivin' a Ford Ranger with a sticker on the boomper that sez "P-39 JOCK."

Natcherly I inquired... seems his pop DID fly P-39's, and claims a Zero kill and shared another. I believe he said there was a lotta luck involved...

The first Mustangs I ever saw were the ones that the Philippine Air Force used to fly in to Clark Field every now and then.

Evidently the fella came out of a cloud and found himself on the Zero's five o'clock, if I remember the story correctly... somewhere there's a painting depicting the event.

On a side note, the fella I work with told me that his Pop has said that after the war he could've bought all the surplus P-39's he wanted for $500 apiece... but was starting a dairy and figured that would buy two heifers!

We all gotta have our priorities...
