  3. One club in my area does buffalo shoots up to 300 yards three times a year, and another club does long-range shoots at 200 yards twice a year. I plan to do a buffalo hunt shoot at Gunsmoke this year; they shoot up to 110 yards. That said, I hope to start traveling to more remote matches and didn't want the rifle's setup to limit me to the local conditions. So I went off the deep end and ordered C Sharps midrange tang rear sight and a globe front sight, and Cats shooting sticks already
  4. Well come to a large club...Many times I wonder about the same...So where do we go for honest news....Maybe something from over seas...When you find an answer, let us know... Texas Lizard
  5. Yes, that is my understanding. Age-based Style and Costume categories aren't "Protected" and are subject to being collapsed if the MD wants to do so. We don't collapse categories at the Illinois State Championship. Instead, we offer a few targeted Unprotected categories which are indicated by the peach-colored cells in the attached image, and then guarantee the person will be able to shoot in it at the match. These include the Unprotected categories of Wrangler through Silver Senior, and a few age categories for Duelist, Gunfighter, and FC Duelist. We don't get crazy and all every possible iteration, just these few targeted categories based on our experience. We also publish how many people are signed up for each category so if someone really craves the competition they can self-select into a more competitive category if they wish to do so. I'd much rather shooters voluntarily self-select into a different category than to have us move them involuntarily. (*The image reflects the Protected and Unprotected Categories as we understand and apply them here.)
  6. OP, what's the bbl ROT? What distance will you be shooting? NEVER, EVER go cheap on sights
  7. I think the argument about the 9 mm not being as accurate stems from 9 mm using a .355 bullet, wowWHILE the 357/38 has a .358 barrel. Undersized bullet. I don't know if that's true. I've never shot a convertible. But that is the argument.
  8. Hope to see you again soon! We shoot the fourth Saturday of each month March through October. We normally have an awesome man on man shoot off at the end of our October shoot with all knock down targets!! Thanks for the kind words!
  9. I don't think the Outlaw shooters want SASS involved in 'their' elite style of shooting. I don't shoot it, but I must admit its one of the most interesting styles to watch an accomplished 'Outlaw'. And their hip shooting is VERY competitive with other shooting categories. ..........Widder
  10. Due to the downfall of news reports being accurate it is hard to know what is really happening in the world. In particular the war in Ukraine and Gaza. several reports say Russia has taken large portions of territory and videos of blown up Ukrainian equipment and men are shown. Then you see several reports of Russia didn’t capture any territory and see videos of blown up equipment and men. same for Gaza. Israel is winning or Israel is losing. Biden is leading or Trump is leading. inflation is sky high and others say inflation is better. I miss truth.

  12. When I lived in a subdivision squirrels got in my attic so I loaded my ruger 10/22 with shot shells and killed a couple of them. It was useless if they were across the yard so I put shot shells in my lever action 45 colt and tagged them better but it was louder. Evidently my neighbors were scared and called the cops and I was told i I couldn’t shoot even BB guns . I moved to the country where everyone around me shoots regularly and now I use whatever I want to. now if I shoot everyone else starts shooting as well like animals calling each other
  13. Depending on the ranges you intend to shoot at, you may want to spend the extra and get a mid range tang sight with a Hadley Eyepiece and a Globe front sight. I have that set up on my Sharps and find it a really nice combo.
  14. Agree with Doc and Sarge! This was my first time shooting this match and the effort that the hometown cowgirls and cowboys have put into the facility is amazing. It's a great place to shoot and a tip of my hat to all involved. Despite my own shortcomings, I had a great time and met a lot of wonderful folks. Thanks to all!
  15. With it being as popular as it sounds I’m surprised SASS doesn’t have it as a category. I’ve personally never shot it or seen anybody shoot it.
  16. Yeah. I think there was a thread on here once where someone said they were at a match that there were not enough Duelists and they lumped them into Gunfighter; or maybe it was vice versa. Which would be a pretty unfair advantage to put them up against each other.

  18. Ruger and Taylor’s sell or sold a 357/38/9mm single action revolver and today I got an email from Cimarron that advertised 38/9mm convertible revolver. since some have said the 9mm was not as accurate out of a convertible 357 would a shorter cylinder frame size help matters if converting to 9mm since 38 is shorter ?
