  1. Past hour
  2. One of the future leaders of a country. Hopefully not yours or mine.
  3. Well that's embarrassing. I have some correcting to do.
  4. I would need an outline of the badge to do it right.
  5. I once took my dog to a veterinarian who insisted that Dalmatians we’re dangerous and insisted on a muzzle. I told him he was an idiot and took my buddy elsewhere! Anothe vet, on another occasion, insisted that her helpers hold that same dog while she administered an injection. I explained that any two of her helpers couldn’t hold him, but that I would hold him because he trusted me. She asked how I could hold him when her helpers couldn’t. I explained that he was trained as a personal protection and home defense dog and that he wouldn’t tolerate someone else trying to restrain him. I sat beside the dog and placed my hand on his back. The vet gave him his shot and Harley didn’t even flinch! That lady was his vet from then until she retired. Said she’d never seen a dog that could be so vicious if he was on the job and so docile when he was “off duty”! I handle my dogs unless they’re tranquilized. I’ll be there when they go to sleep and there when they wake up!
  6. think she earned the honor even if there was another , thats a great American story of perseverance if i ever heard one and i have heard a few in the last seven and a half decades
  7. #1: can't help #2: nope. Really weak (slow) shotshells seem to work just dandy. Buy what ejects reliably. #3: Some cowboy near you has a used one for sale. Advertise your interest to buy. If you don't want to be last in the rankings, buy a shot timer and practice with a mentor. You should be able to place near the top at most clubs with factory stock guns and good coaching. Don't depend on gunsmithing to win a match or category.
  8. I do know the feeling. When Dad came out of the Navy after WWII and finished his education, there wasn't a lot of money, We ate a whole lot of "Free" Spam his Dad's store wasn't selling with rationing gone. I can't stand the smell of it to this day 70 some years on.
  9. i will say this , my father in law served a full term in subs , he took advantage of every available thing to feed his family of six , my wife says if shge ever sees another navy ration - particularly the obsolete WWI stuff they grew up on again she may start shootin - there were still rations in his garage back in the late 80s when i met him , i guess they were well p[packaged and still good depending on your apatite ,
  10. I started reloading many years ago with an RCBS Rock Chucker with rifle rounds and currently load most rounds on a Dillion 550, both pistol and rifle calibers.
  11. Today
  12. When we had a dog the Vet always made me hold him for his shots. Never with a blanket, always just the pup. The Vet was never bitten while I was holding the pup. Much of it has to do with the trust and comfort the dog has with the you. I started him from a puppy to know that I was in charge but he was always safe in my hands. A good member of the family for 14 years. My wife and I sat with him to the end. If they are family they deserve to be cared for right to the end. CJ
  13. Howdy! First match done and I'm planning and practicing for the next one! After putting on one of the slowest shows around, meeting for sure the nicest and most helpful people around, and experiencing some equipment failures and learning why other equipment is pretty important to have, I have a few questions :). First of all, thanks @Chuckaroo #13080 Regulator, @Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L, @Dutch Coroner, Mt Airy Undertaker, and others whose names I've forgotten, but were no less helpful or friendly, for showing me what's what, fixing my malfunctioning shotgun, letting me use better shells, carting my guns around, and giving me essential pointers for my first match ever. I'm humbled by your kindness! Man, thinking back, when my shotgun was down (briefly, since the problem was found and fixed before the next stage), at least two people volunteered the use of theirs with 0 hesitation. Really cannot overstate how awesome you all were. Now, I've been trying to remember some of that indispensable info and forgot some important points, can anyone tell me: 1. Who is/where is the cowboy gunsmith I should visit in Frederick, MD? Top priority thing: I need to sort out an issue with my Cimarron '73 - upon close inspection, either the carrier block isn't quite sitting right, or the chamber mouth is unforgivingly sharp, or both, and the edge of the brass is getting snagged on the chamber edge. As much as I'm tempted to just start messing with it, I think I'd rather have an experienced eye and probably some experienced surgery. I'll probably have the smith look at the shotgun too, which did ok after its malfunction, but could be better. 2. For factory shells, I was using some borrowed Remington STS - I loved how it extracted, so I'm going to order some, any major difference in performance between 1200fps and 1145? 3. Also, I really wanted to pick up a Rugged Gear 4 gun cart, but apparently they're having some manufacturing issues. Is anything out there similar or comparable? I love the look of the wood carts, but I wanted to find something light and collapsible that I could also use for 3 gun events.
  14. Don't know where you get that I'm criticizing the family. It's just historical trivia. The Roosevelts were awesome. Get a life. I'm outta here.
  15. Never heard of such a beast. Thanks for the pic.
