Time flies when you're having fun. Can't believe it's been 10 years of CAS!

In May it will be ten years since my wife Delia Rose and I started Cowboy Action Shooting. As of Trailhead last week at THSS, I've now competed in 99 matches! Here's a chart with a moving 5-match average of my average time per stage. (I'm a math guy I can't help myself)

It took me about a year to get the hang of things and dramatically reduce my stage times. The spikes you see after that are when I did our local club's Wild Bunch category, which adds extra rounds and time.

I switched from regular two-handed pistols to Gunfighter category four years ago at Trailhead 2020. My times went up a bit with it at first, but I have really improved within the last year after getting some good advice from other Gunfighter shooters. The best part of this sport is the interactions with other shooters. My stage times are now in the upper-20s or low-30s most of the time. I hope to eventually average in the 20s every match. I've done it a couple of times now, so I know I can keep getting better.

I know how poorly I have done in the past, I dont think I will keep a chart for the next 23 years. I am shooting now at the level that won matches when I started. The game has passed my ability by.

Congrats on your improvement, keep it up.

Are you having fun? That’s the secret I’m told. SASS gives an old duffer like me a purpose. Besides, someone has to pony up and buy them there belt buckles for the top guns LOL I’m so bad that usually one match during the year I will get all my ammo confiscated and they will burn my leather in front of me and slash the tires on my gun cart. LOL It is all fun and only the best people surround you. Hang in there my friend and hope we can have a match some day.

love your graph (former elementary math teacher here).  It does a great job of visually showing you your progress

see you are in my neck of the woods.  You're always welcome to come to TRR and shoot.  We're right across from the Texas Renaissance Festival, 7 miles north of Magnolia.

I definitely plan to make it up there to TRR @Cheyenne Ranger, 48747L. We have quite a few folks that regularly shoot there and talk about your club. We've only shot at a few other clubs so far since my family's farm is in Columbus so THSS is easy. Now that our kid is 6 I'm hoping it will be easier for his grandparents to occasionally watch him on a weekend so we can go to more clubs from time to time.

When you jumped in in 2020 and shot gunfighter for the first time I was really impressed.  You are a heck of a nice guy and an integral part of THSS.  Your club did a great job of putting on Trailhead this year.  I plan to be back.  And yes, give TRR a shot sometime.  Also a good club and their annual is in the fall/winter.

Boy, that makes two of us. Once upon a time I thought I was going to be competitive. Um…, no.

Newbie!  :P  But, my wife would have loved to see your chart... I know exactly when my times started to flag... when that dad-blamed Tex made Frontiersman a "duelist" style category!
