Subdeacon Joe
The Dutchess of Hamilton is a streamline locomotive built in England under the direction of William Stanier in 1937. Such a beautiful train engine. 5

Forty Rod SASS 3935
There was a time in the steam era when this world saw a lot of gorgeous locomotives, in a lots of countries. The diesels came along and we still saw some new locos that would be considered beautiful....but not many. Thanks for the memories.

I rode quite a few trains, once the bullet train from Moscow to Peter — timewise it was about the same as flying because the train stations were in the city.

Abilene Slim SASS 81783
I've always been a fan of Raymond Lowey designs like this one for the Pennsylvania RR. Henry Dreyfuss designed the other locomotive for the New York Central RR. 2

Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Here’s what 4014 looked like without photo enhancement/illustration while in Kansas City 9/21. An amazing and beautiful piece of machinery. Edited March 14 by Abilene Slim SASS 81783 2

Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Southern Pacific 4294 - "The Million Pound Beast" This "Class AC12" 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward steam locomotive was used by SP to haul trains over the Sierras from 1944 to 1956; the "cab forward" design allowed the engineer and fireman to breath while passing through the snow sheds and tunnels. Although the cab was forward, the tender was in the traditional location behind the locomotive; since it was oil fueled, the fuel was pumped forward - not possible with coal.
