Asa Smith
Ordered a new bolt assembly from Taylor's. Planning on sending off the original for repair to have as backup... Thanks for the help Update: Received the new "new style" bolt assembly from Taylor's. It fit right into the gun with no modification or "tweeking". Works like a charm. Now i plan on sending off the old one and having it as a backup. Like the title says. The tab on the bottom of the bolt finally broke off on my trusty old 66'. I thought it was the extractor but when i disassembled it i found the tab gone. This gun has never been short stroked and has all factory internals. Looking for a factory part or info on available options. I would like to have the gun up and running as soon as i can.... Checking VTI and other options, just thought i would check here... Thanks for all helpful information, Asa PS: I have owned this gun since 2003 and bought it used, not sure of the date of manufacture but think this is considered the "old" design. Any helpful info appreciated... VTI is out of stock on the old (pre 2008) design bolt... Edited March 28 by Asa Smith
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Look up Captain Clark's post of February 8th. Has lots of names dealing with the same problem.
Captain Clark
+1 to Tex Jones. Another name to throw out for a replacement bolt ( large caliber) is Sarco. Don’t ask me why, but they have complete new style kits in stock. Yes, they will replace old style bolts. The newer style retainer is definitely more robust, which can’t be all bad. My 66 runs just fine with the new style. Now I’ve got to send off the broken / bent tab bolts for repair!

TN Mongo, SASS #61450
Captain Clark is right on; I did exactly what he did. Also check Taylor's and Cimarron for bolt assemblies (much better deal than the bolt alone).

Tucker I am emotionally attached to this gun and am hoping to keep it going for a while longer.... I will miss out this weekend unfortunately. If all else fails I will keep your offer in mind. Thanks for all the help. I ordered a new bolt assembly from Taylor's and will contact one of the gunsmiths suggested. Hopefully the new bolt assembly will work an i can get the original fixed for a backup. Thanks to all for the help! Asa

Flanigan Flats
I think I have one sitting in the back of the safe. It came with a rifle I got in a swap a few years ago. I have been told it is one of the “old” 66 rifles. I am a truck driver and I won’t be home until Friday this week. Send me a PM with a reasonable offer plus shipping and we’ll go from there if your interested

The Original Lumpy Gritz
A good welder can build that back up, then shape it with tool-maker files.
