Gun-Tests Magazine

Does anyone get this magazine? Worthwhile or just another gun mag?

Frequently get adverts for it and thinking about trying it for a year.

Never heard of it

Really?  Been around for decades.  Sort of the Consumer Reports for firearms.

Don't know about now, but use to be a great source of info.. The great thing about the way they got the guns to test, they walked into a local gun store and bought one off the shelf, not one the was tricked out by the manufacture.  I remember reading several reviews the said, we would like to give you a report on this gun, but the POS broke on the second shot, so we can't.

Well...   I used to get it.   They pride themselves on giving honest reviews of things because they accept no ads.  But I don't know if that's still true or not.

But...

https://www.gun-tests.com/uncategorized/taurus-thunderbolt-c45br-45-lc/

Talks at length about how, in spite of some minor flaws, the Taurus Thunderbolt reproduction of the Colt Lighting is a great gun, one that would make you instantly competitive in Cowboy Action Shooting.

Uhm...   Right...

Now, it occurs to me that, in all fairness, I should add the following.   I remember when the Lightning was first hitting the scene.  There WAS a lot of talk about how they were gonna take over the game, and become the most common go to gun for the top shooters.  Obviously, that didn't happen, and they have remained a "niche" rifle in our game, with a few afficionados who greatly swear by them, but the majority opinion is, admittedly, negative.  (I just disagree with it.)

And even the most honest reviewer can get it wrong on occasion.   Yeah, almost right away, the opinion of the Taurus quickly became deservedly negative, but I have met a rare few people who run an unmodified one with no problems.  Maybe Gun Tests got lucky and obtained a rare one that actually works?

And from what I remember, the magazine DID have some interesting articles from time to time.   But I did let my complimentary subscription that I don't remember how I got, lapse when it ran out.  I didn't think it was worth renewing in the overall scheme of things.

this thread has renewed my thinking on print material - hearing all of you say you subscribe and read them regularly gives me hope that it will endure , recently i had thoughts otherwise with the closeouts of a couple i thought were staples of the industry , i like reading hard copy of articles - be it news , reviews or fiction for fun , im glad so many are still in that thinking

You never want a drink of water until the well runs dry. Look at Gun Reports. Look at American Heritage Arms. Everyone wants free. You can't pay bills with free.  I know a few well-known gunwriters who have been taking pay cuts for the past two decades and are now getting paid what they were making in the 1980s. If you want good content, you have to pay. You want free, you get AI-generated content or YouTube idiots like this guy:

you got that right , i know writing doesnt pay the bills but im glad there are those willing to get less than minimum wage to keep us reading , i get it that cosats have increased but tere are revenue streams some publications refuse to engage , advertising was understood since my first "boys ife" hit the mail box and every publication after that , i would rather look at ads in print than see them pop ip on my phone or computer obliterating the content i want to read , that just pi$$eS me off and makes me ignore that vendor even if i might be wanting the product ,

i do hope actual print continues till im gone , i far prefer it

Gun-Tests nice thin magazine with good information.

Now for that video above.... it is not complete.  Watched all of it hoping it would show me how to stipple the entire frame.

So, after all that work, the barcode is still there, and the gun is noticeably defaced.

Yeah.that's a great thing to do!

The title of the video should be, "How to destroy the value of the gun in 20 minutes or less."
