Calamity Kris Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Uno is interested in going to Helen, Georgia for Oktoberfest this year. A co-worker told him about it. Has anyone been? I checked out their website and it looks interesting. http://www.helenga.org/calendar Thanks!!
Alpo Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I've been to Helen, but not at Oktoberfest. Was there in the summer - July, I think. They've got a very cool model train museum. Charlemagne's Kingdom.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Cool town. Like Alpo I’ve never been to there Oktoberfest. But I’ve never been to a bad one, anywhere.

Oklahomabound Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 My wife and I love to go to Helen Ga. Octoberfest.... We love to stay at an Inn right on the river next to big park where they used to set up their big Octoberfest tent... There are a lot of interesting shops, decent restraurants, and other activities...

Marshal Hangtree Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 My wife and I used to go to Helen every year for Octoberfest and loved it. That was in the 80's and early 90's. We went back again in 2012 and Helen had changed a lot. Many, many of the old mom and pop gift shops were gone, and were replaced with cheap foreign T-shirt and trinket shops that you can find at any tourist trap. It was nice to see the Georgia mountains again, and to camp at Unicoi State Park, but the overall atmosphere that was once Helen, Georgia was mostly gone.
Cactus Mike Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Was there about 24 years ago in early summer. It was certainly not what you would expect in Georgia. Cool Bavarian looking village. Was a great bbq place on the outskirts of town too. Almost got lost in the mountains on a bicycle, but that’s another story.
