I just picked up my Henry 45/70

Single shot rifle from my ffl today .

Wow what a beautiful short rifle she is .

Cant wait to get her out to the range and run some Black Powder down the barrel.

Just thought I would share her with y'all .

I'm interested to know if there are good sights to be had for this rifle - I'm not interested in scoping one.  Let us know how your shooting session goes!

Looks like you either have to scope it with a Malcolm style scope or cobble up something like a Buffington barrel sight. The lever mostly covers what tang there is so no tang sight.

I'm in the process of fitting one of the Henry Big  Boy Rear Buckhorn Rifle sights for it .

This should work out real nice .

IMHO .

Ok sight update.

I took off the Henry  41B front sight .

And Replaced it with a Henry 48B front sight .

Then I removed the little flip down rear sight .

And Fitted a Henry Big Boy Rear Simi Buckhorn sight .

This should work out real nice .

That looks great Rooster. :)

Let us know how she shoots.

I was debating on changing my sights.

I was going to post that I bought mine at Cabela’s and that they have them for $369, but it appears they now only carry the .223 Remington and the .243 Winchester. They did have the .308 Winchester and the 45-70.

I wonder if this is more Bass Pro BS...

I hope the Cabelas Buyout by

Bass pro shop dont change Cabelas into Bass Pro shop.

I have always been very happy doing business with Cabelas.

What's the difference?

I have to go out of my way to get to a Bass Pro Shops (~50 miles one-way). The closest Cabela's is almost 3 hours one-way.

I can buy powder and primers from a local that's much closer and same or better prices. Plus, did I mention locally owned?

Same with fishing and hunting gear.

That's not to say I won't stop in and look around if I happen to be passing through. But it's rare that I'll make special plans to go out of my way for either.

I support many of the independents.

But not many are left locally.

Cabelas is right her in my home town.

I dont buy much there but I do like the store and the people.

I got good news and bad news for ya based on the Huntsville, AL Cabelas. The good news is the sign still says Cabelas. The bad news is they might as well pull it down and change it to Bass Pro. Half or less the ammo stock, one third the reloading stock and every stupid Bass Pro gun policy is now in full effect. Meanwhile they now have twice the clothing and tacky gift crap. Most of the old Cabelas people are gone or leaving. I'll not be going there again.

Shoots pretty darn good for me and my loads .

Hand rolled 405gr Lee  bullet and full load APP FF.

Only have shot it at 50, 100 , 200 so far .

But she is keeping them all on the  of a paper plate .

I think the sights I fitted is a much better option then what she come with stock .

Rooster.
