Old Scatterbrain Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 How often does this happen, that they had fabricated a jackstand for this specific purpose?
Paladin Gun For Hire Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Amazing landing. Spent two tours on the flight deck of an attack carrier helping launch and recovery operations. Not all landings are that successful.
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 My next door's son is a Lance Cpl serving aboard the UUS Bataan. He must know about this incident. Gotta ask. Thanks for posting Joe.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Considering all the less than optimal conditions they work in, I'm surprised they don't have a lot more "incidents".
Utah Bob #35998 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 How often does this happen, that they had fabricated a jackstand for this specific purpose? If you need to do maintenance on the gear, tires, hydraulics or whatever, you need a stand. That's what it's for. Pretty smart thinking to use it in an emergency. VTOL. No tail hook? No nose gear? No problem.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 So I guess you could say that if God had wanted man to fly, he would have given him wings, a tail hook and a nose landing gear?
Sedalia Dave Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 How often does this happen, that they had fabricated a jackstand for this specific purpose? Given what it would cost to repair the AC and how inexpensive the stand is I am sure that even if it was only needed once they would have one. When I was in the Navy we had a lot of specialty stands that were only used once every couple of years. Harriers are quite complicated and when in the VTO/VL mode even minor issues can be next to impossible to recover from.
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Glad they had a calm day at sea too. LG
Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 With the carrier bobbin' up and down ..... Excellent landing... Wow. GG
Utah Bob #35998 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 So I guess you could say that if God had wanted man to fly, he would have given him wings, a tail hook and a nose landing gear? Only if he wanted them to land properly.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Now if somebody can do that with an F-18, I'll really be impressed.
