  1. For the last month I've been photographing and doing the individual gun write-ups for a Bic Graphics calendar that will feature a dozen antique firearms. I thought you might like to see some of the photographs from the session.

  4. Always thought it was unfair to take rankings over a years time. Too many factors that effect attendance and generally the person with the highest attendance has an advantage with points over time. Without creating another category, assign your points to the top shooters male/female for each shoot. If they shoot in at least 5 or 6 shoots over the year then average their individual scores. Top average score wins the prize. If there is a tie.... The perhaps a super shoot off between them.

  8. OLG, never have had a failure to feed, they come apart for cleaning just like the Rugers, (4 Allen screws), but haven't had any issues with dirt and crud in any of them. They have stainless feed lips, and work in all three of my 10-22s. I have a couple BX25s, and they do require regular cleaning due to the "closed" design where the dust etc can't be easily blown out with a quick puff.

  9. My kids(14 and 15) have been going to an MMA class for 4 years and both just earned their 1st degree Black Belts. That being said, neither one of them could take me in a fight. Most karate classes don't train hardened street fighters. It is very much about discipline, teamwork and exercise. They have been taught some take-down techniques and some weapon retention/take-away moves, which might come in handy. It sounds like your daughter has just started, give it a more time as the instructing tends to go a bit slow. You are probably like me when my kids first started, thinking Black Belt means Chuck Norris. it doesn't. It doesn't make it worthless training though.

  10. Yippee! I got an e-mail from PWB today. He was thanking me for my email to him. At least, he was able to send an e-mail. So, that is a good thing. Allie

  11. I shot with a guy at the Waldorf, MD club (Potomac Rangers) in the early 2000's who shot an Evans. He was having to have brass custom made at about $3 a pop until Starline started making .44 Super Mag. brass at 39 cents each as .44 Mag. did not work. He had a lot of really neat guns, pair of Colt Bluntlines, etc. Dressed like a RR Engineer and lived in VA. I believe he was a retired Marine. The Evans was really tricky to load and to show clear. Being around it was worth the hassle. At the time, there were a few available in the area for about $700.

  13. I started off with a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 and a Win 94 in .45 colt and a Stoeger shotgun. Those guns are long gone but boy did I have fun the first match I went to. I wasn't last either???

  14. As one who has played this game longer than most... I've seen people struggle with their decisions over whether to play... and what guns, accoutrements to buy. Decisions that are VERY important to the overall expenses and even the enjoyment of the game... when such person has so little information about how to make good decisions in relation to what guns and gear to buy. I can't begin to count the number of folks that have spent so much to end up either spending 2-3 times as much as their original investment in trying to MAKE their original purpose work, or swappin' out nearly all the firearms to better ones. While a case can be make to just "buy and shoot", unless you're very knowledgeable about single action revolvers and lever action rifles, understanding what makes them work, and what hinders their true potential, this is really a "are ya fellin' lucky" proposition. Ergo, buy once, cry once... and the BEST way to ensure that this holds true is to attend a match or two at the local level, and ASK questions of those in attendance. You will need to put yourself out there, no need to be a wall-flower, one thing we all hold in common, is that one time we were all NEW. And, we either gained the knowledge thru help from others, or spent untold hours studying the sport. Take the easy way, introduce yourself and ask questions. TN Mongo gave you a couple of great pieces of information. Use it. Welcome to the insanity!
