Cholla
I have a Marbles rear tang sight. What front sight do you like for longer-range events? I was looking at this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/384341668424?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201018205123%26meid%3Dcdada2484d1d433caf7ca8d1073c2ddf%26pid%3D101286%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dpp%26itm%3D384341668424%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26algv%3DWatchlistVariantWithMLR%26brand%3DWinchester&_trksid=p2380057.c101286.m47999&_trkparms=pageci%3A34a3e04d-d1a4-11ed-92bd-7ab8d7b9e037|parentrq%3A440c50cc1870a0ad6c3ed8f8fffb5b38|iid%3A1
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
I have used a globe front sight with replaceable inserts, such as these from the Track of the Wolf website: They usually go with a Vernier type tang site, but would work with a Marbles rear. Boulder Canyon Bob# 32052L
I use Lyman 17a sights on my long range rifles and like them for the ability to change insertrs . https://www.lymanproducts.com/series-17a-target-front-sights
Sedalia Dave
Get the style where the inserts are held in by a threaded plug and not the style where the insert drops in from the top and is held in by a short spring. That short spring snags on everything and ends up breaking. Buy this style Not this style If you're planning on shooting long range consider adding a barrel mounted level. Kid Rich
I use the original front sight that came on the rifle and a Marbles tang for the rear. Rifle was manufactured in 1881. kR
Griff
What's your definition of "long range"? For most cowboy long range events you can probably get by with the factory front sight. If you'd like a bit more precision, the Lyman 17A series of sights will be of benefit. Are of good quality, and with a inset kit, very adaptable to differing conditions. If you're going for 300 yards, for example, you probably want a front sight that includes a level. For canting the rifle will seriously impact the repeatability of your shots. For a number of years I used a sight very much like the one you show in the link, but... I filed the top of the ball off to have a more precise "T". Also, IMO, the ball, "T" or cross of the sight should be in the center of the globe... not in the upper or lower quadrant. It will make lining up the front sight in the center of your tang peep sight much easier, or natural.
Bailey Creek,5759
I like the lyman front sight, that you can flip up and have a post sight. Or flip down and have a blade sight.
Cholla
Ranges of 150 to 200 yards is what I am gearing up for.
Cpt Dan Blodgett, SASS #75655
Standard Post front sight should work. What do you plan on shooting, steel, paper, game. With peep sights I like to take 6 oclock hold on a bullseye and zero to point of aim. A 6 oclock hold is a more repeatable fine aiming point than center of bull. Cholla
Steel target. I plan on using it for the long-range lever-action rifle match at Bordertown.
