Ruger 10/22 accessories...

Recommended Posts

My dad gave me a like new 10/22 when he was downsizing his collection. It’s a fun gun to shoot as-is, but I also know there are a boatload of aftermarket accessories.

What items have Saloonatics used and enjoyed?

Target barrels?

Stocks?

Triggers?

Extended magazine release?

High capacity magazine that actually works?

I appreciate any insights you can offer.

I've got a Magpul Hunter stock on mine.  I installed a basic (not extended) Volquartsen mag release and bolt handle, a BX-Trigger, and a set of fiber optic fire sights.  The factory barrel is more than accurate enough for my 61 year old eyes.  I've occasionally put a rail on top and attached a red dot, but that puts me into a different class at the rimfire competitions I shoot in, so I mostly just use the open sights.  You can't beat the factory magazines, and I have a dozen 10 round, a few 25 and one 25x2.

What is your goal?  Do you want a lightweight carbine or a heavy bench gun or...?  Your budget is your limit with a 10/22.

Some years are better than others for factory receivers.

Kidd makes a good heavy barrel.  He sells direct to consumer, bypassing the $100 retailer markup.

The extended magazine release and trigger depend on the intended use.  An hour of polishing will transform the stock trigger assembly into a good trigger or save time with a drop in kit like the Volquartsen.

The Ruger bx25 is the best extended magazine.  The bx15 is a compromise for bench use.

Stay away from magazines that do not have metal feed lips.

Love these for steel challenge. "Double Kross" 10/22® Magazine Body for the Ruger® 10/22® Rotary Magazines. Note that they do require the guts out of a stock BX-10 magazine.

A Pelican 1020 Micro Case holds three of the Double Kross magazines perfectly

Even if you stick with the stock Ruger box magazine get these tools. 10/22® Magazine Assembly Tool with Pouch and Carabiner. Allows you to easily disassemble the stock Ruger magazine. Also allows you to reset the spring tension so that the magazines are easier to load yet they still function reliably.

I see they now make a three way magazine "Triple Kross" 10/22® Magazine Body for Ruger® 10/22® Rotary Magazines

Howdy Charlie.

Visit websites for:   KIDD,  Volquartsen,  Tandemcross, Fedderson, etc......

These vendors make EVERYTHING you can imagine for the 10/22 and will be glad to sell you directly, including complete rifles

sent to your FFL.

BOYDS stocks are also beautiful and work great.   I know because I have 4 setups using all kinds of accessories.

Call me if you want here in Maryville:   696-1996

Howdy,

If you have a carbine, remove the barrel band. but first shoot a careful group.

Then with the band off shoot another careful group.

Most folks find that helps.

The screws that hold the barrel to the action need to be tight and if you have

a torque wrench around make em equal.

And the screw holding stock to action should be gudntite.

My favorite barrel is the Beyer lightweight barrel.

You can get a nice variety and some fit the standard stock.

You don't HAVE to get a bull barrel.

My favorite magazine is the standard clear ruger made 10 round mag.

There is a little gizmo that allows two to be attached.

All rugers are NOT created equal....Chief AJ.

Extended mags that work great in one will fail in another.

If or when you put on a scope mount be aware that excess adhesive

going thru the top of the action WILL drop onto and jam the firing pin.

A 3-7 Redfield scope with the fancy recticle is a good first scope.

Other than that I don't know much about em.

Best

Howdy,

My favorite modification is the replacement of a little metal thing in

the trigger group. It allows cocking by just pulling back on the bolt.

Called bolt release or slide release....NOT the magazine release.

Big magazine  release can be hit by accident and mag can be lost.

Just learn to use the stock mag release, I can do it anyone CAN.

Otherwise you have to mess with that little sliver of metal.

The part is less than 20 dollars and there are directions on utube

as to how to put it in.

Yes you could just modify the stock part.

Good luck with that.

if you was to fit it with a picatinny rail you could accessorise it with things like a cup holder, a gps bracket, a toilet roll dispenser, a chainsaw dohicky and maybe a colour tv .............

I like the idea of an iPhone holder on the rail. Take selfies of every shot, or pics of the targets, and post straight to social media. After all, if it’s not on social media, it didn’t happen. :-P

Choate Machine & Tool folding stock.

4x scope with a good reticle

Good black web sling that will stabilize the rifle

Extra Ruger 10-round magazines (3 or 4, maybe)
........that’s about it

It’s accurate enough as-is.

I can hit ground squirrels at 160+ yards out, just have a good scope with a decent reticle and have a good feel to the ballistics of good .22LR ammo.  Find the ammo that works best with your rifle and stay with it.  Keep your rifle and bore clean.
