Subdeacon Joe
A rookie drill instructor escorted his first batch of new recruits to the mess hall. He told them, "There are three rules in this mess hall: Shut up! Eat up! Get up!" Checking to see that he had everyone's attention, he asked, "What is the first rule?" Much to the amusement of the other instructors, 60 privates yelled in unison, "Shut up, Drill Sergeant!"

Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663
When I went through Basic the meningitis epidemic was on. Our drill sergeants yelled at us in the mess hall... "If I don't see sparks coming off your forks, you're not eating fast enough!!!" We did a lot of social isolation then too. Only one platoon allowed in the mess hall at a time. First member of the next platoon couldn't enter the mess hall until the last member of the previous platoon had left. Only one hour for the company to eat. There were four (4) platoons in the company. In Basic Training. Me and my buddy, Snow. I'm the one with the helmet liner on the knee. Still needed a little more training as to where the liner was supposed to be worn.
