Mack Hacker, #60477
The real question is: Can I shrink 45 loops to fit 38 cartridges?
Colorado Coffinmaker
NO. But .... Come spring, your gunbelt may well be too small
Silver Sam, SASS #34718L
Wish I could remember who it was...... but awhile back I noticed someones belt who had the same problem as you. He had taken a single length of rawhide lacing and looped it through all the 45 loops to allow them to hold 38's I thought It looked like a pretty good idea & said it worked really well. Gold Canyon Kid #43974
Why not use a 38 10 round slide on the shotgun belt? Will get reloads up where you need em.

Texas Stiles
When I had my rig built I had them put 5 loops on side of the rig but had the loops in both 38 and 45.... it was 38 45.38.45.38 ...that way if I decided to go back to 45 or 38 when swapping categories I would be good
Pat Riot
Texas Stiles, That is a great idea! Thanks. Grizzly Dave, Years ago I saw this on a gun belt at a match. The guy had .45 loops. He took a 6' length of leather boot lace and weaved in and out of the loops like lacing a boot on one side and then when he reached the end he laced it back through the other way and tied it of with a couple of beads for decorations. I hope this helps.
Butch McGie, SASS#71758
Might be grounds for a new belt?
Castalia,SASS#18915
It will work. But it is ugly. Soak your cartridge loops in boiling water. I used a pie plate. Try to keep the belt dry. Place your 38spc cases into the loops and let dry over night. If the belt loops have been saturated with any kind of oil. This method will probably not work. I did this in 1997 and the loops are still holding 38spc. Did I say this is ugly.
Hashknife Cowboy
Leather belts shrink especially after Thankgiving and Christmas! I so love this time of year!
Blackey Cole
Usually it stretches unless you soak it and dry it out then put a bread bag plastic type single layer around your gun and let it dry with the gun in it if it is lines with kydex, aluminum, steel no need its only going to tighten around the liner. Ventura Slim, SASS #35690
I believe its a no no to use .45 brass in loops to hold 38s, but they do fit and are easy to grab. You could get a shotgun belt with five pistol loops and you shift it around so the pistol rounds are where you want them. Keep the holsters as is. Oh yea, water on leather works on holsters great, but dries out the leather a lot.
