The Brits commonly have yearly series of 1 to 6 episodes. Drives me crazy for shows I like to do that. Luther is another one- 2 episodes for 2016 I hear. They originally thought about doing a "period" episode as a joke, then decided it might be a good thing to do full heartedly. Apparently the cast all enjoyed "going back in time."
