Texas Lizard Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 For the last few days I keep hearing a drip drip sound...I look all over the bathroom thinking its somewhere in there...Nothing, still keep hearing it, drip drip...This morning taking care of the need, I hear it again...Drip Drip...I no it's not me, cause the paper work is done...And it's not the other, cause it has not been anywhere it should not be...But drip drip is still there...I get a flash light and look again...Nothing...Now thinking it must be time for new batteries in the hearing aids..I went looking for something else I needed... I pull out one of the draws in there...Not working to good...Just off track, pull out further to find it is wet...Pull the rest of them out to find 2 out of 3 wet....I get the flash light to look...There it is, my drip...Behind the wall...Not what was needed for a Saturday...Call the plumber hoping he can fit me in on Monday...It does seem to be a slow drip, that helps...Keeping my brother-in-law away from it...Knowing him, he is going want to shake the pipes around...Drip drip I can handle, run run not needed... Welcome 2015...Lighting a few candles and hoping for a better rest of the year.... Texas Lizard
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 That is a bummer. I suspect that there will be drywall repairs and the of course painting. Suspect water damage to any wood behind that wall. Dry rot is not your friend.
Cat Brules Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Call your insurance company. They will probably pay for a leak that you caught right away, but maybe not one that's been going on for a while, sound like this one just started. Call them right away and discuss.
Noz Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I chased a faint electronic squeal for a couple of weeks. Got the boy and the wife to help me find it. No joy, and it didn't seem to bother them. I decided to get my hearing aids which would amplify the sound and make it easier to find. Surprise, surprise. It sounds the same with or without the hearing aids. The tinnitus has just kicked up another notch.
Southpaw Gringo, SASS # 74217 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Did anyone recently hang a picture on the wall? Bad solder jobs can surface years down the road and its usually water hammer that will loosen em up..
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I had a friend whose problem was soft water. The water actually caused the minerals in his solder joints to leach out. After that was discovered all of his joints had to be redone, even if they were not leaking. It was only a matter of time before they would.
JudgeBagodonuts Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I chased a faint electronic squeal for a couple of weeks. Got the boy and the wife to help me find it. No joy, and it didn't seem to bother them. Had a similar sound, almost like a faint chirp. I heard it occasionally over the course of a few days, a few chirps and then silence. No one else heard it. Finally figured it out when the freezer stopped keeping things cold. The sound was a leak in the compressor seal.
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I'm glad you can HEAR well. When I went to the VA for my latest hearing test, the Audiologist ask me if I'm ever around any loud noises. I replied: "How would I know"? My answer caught her alittle by surprise and she didn't know how to respond. Then she ask: "What makes you think your hearing has gotten worse". I replied: "Maam, I can't even here the water running, even when I'm the one in the shower". True story! EDIT: my hearing aids are turned up so loud that I apparently get very loud feedback, of which I can rarely hear. But everyone else around me can hear em. Sitting in Church last summer, I thought I would rub my ear. Then my wife nudges me with her elbow and the Preacherman looked over at me. I ask the wife what was wrong. She told me that my hearing aids were giving a loud feedback noise. At the time, I had no idea that they were making any sounds, even though they were stuck in my ears. ..........Widder
Michigan Slim Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Ear doc told me I would never hear my children speak. I had worked in industrial settings and had one bad a$$ stereo in my 69 Camaro. He was wrong, but not by much. Self inflicted wound I guess. And yes, I may not look you square in the eye when you speak. If you have a soft voice, I may be reading your lips to fill in the gaps in my hearing. My wife will speak while my back is turned and expect me to know what she is saying. Not ignoring her (much!), but by habit I tune out sounds around me to concentrate on the TV or another sound. If you wish to have a conversation, let me know. I will pay attention!
