EOT Waddies depart

Nevada Jim

Recommended Posts

Was just told by a source I trust implicitly that a single waddie was asked to leave/escorted off the range. No details as to why other than "it was long-brewing and he had it coming". Also, some of his local buds opted to go with him. No information beyond that. Otherwise, the waddies still there cowboy'd up and fill in the gaps and things are running smoothly. No reason to beat the jungle drums further. Looks like the SASS mgmt. has things taken care of.

Butch, sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. Hope you get well soon.

Wow

EOT will carry on

Good deal

Misty Moonshine certainly will do well in actually looking into the cause / reason / correction of stated problem or legitimate actions (health/personal)

SASS will go foreword for the benefit of the whole of sass

There will always be problems to address at any shoot and at any shoot level

Instant rumblings on the internet may not always the best way to address things for the betterment of the whole over the long haul

Not everyone is cut out for the job.

A few years ago. Our whole group got a &^% chewing from one of the Waddies.

He was luck everyone in our group kept there cool. We did not do anything wrong.

Seems he just did not like some in the group.

So. Someone like that I can see being kicked off the range. And SASS would have

been in the right.

Could very well be the case here.

Funny that you mention it, sometimes a few folks get a bit carried away with a tiny bit of authority. Today was driving and came upon a flagman waving his stop sign at me. I slowed immediately but pulled up to within about 20-30 feet of him and he came running to my door and chewed me out for at least a minute telling me I had to stop as soon as I saw his stop sign and not drive up so close to him. All the while a line of about 10 cars was waiting for him to change to a slow sign since the traffic from other direction had already cleared. Told him I would be glad to wait until we call a policeman to come and sort it all out but he would have a bunch of upset drivers. As he turned his sign to slow he spit on my door. Lucky my truck was already dirty. Reminds me that job description for a traffic flagman is right after all.

I don't understand. Whats the rub? This is supposed to be a fun sport to participate in, seems like there's a lot of angst over *something* - What happened to the cowboy way? It's one of the BIG reasons I joined this sport, amongst all of my choices out there.

so whats the deal? If you don't want to post it here, can someone give me the Readers Digest condensed version?

If you never have worked as a wad die at EOT or WR then do so and you will understand a lot more of these issues. Some things a dollar a day and found isn't worth it even with the desire to help out. Been there with another major annual and it wasn't worth it.

Thanks for the compliment Blackie. Being a Waddie is hard work and we don't do it for the dollar a day, you can be assured of that. EVERY Waddie that I've ever worked with at EOT has done it because they want to be part of the machine that makes EOT work. I don't think I've ever heard one Waddie complain about the work that they've been assigned to do. The reward for me at the gate is to be able to start everyone in attendance out on the right foot and help them have the best EOT possible. The best days for me at each EOT have been the longest and most enjoyable and that would be the three days of the main match. I'd be at my post at the gate at 5:30am and watch the sun rise and then greet the early shift of shooters and then the nest shift would come in about 9:00 and then the last about 11:30 or so and I would usually stay there until 5:00pm on those three days.

I've probably shaken more hands and waved at more great people than a politician would in a campaign season and I felt great doing it. I've met so many people over the years being a Waddie and to not be able to finish out EOT 2014 is very disappointing. I'm sure some of them have gotten tired of my corny jokes and there have probably been a few complaints but I believe I helped make everyone's EOT experience a little better. I left Founders Ranch Wednesday morning with my head held high and tears streaming down my face as I watched it disappear in my rearview mirror. SASS, EOT and Founders Ranch have been very good to me and for me over the years and if I can somehow get my medical problem taken care of I'll be back.

NJ; We really do use this to convey info.....to post this tread and leave us hanging is just that. Do you know why the waddies walked? Are you there? Is this just hearsay? or are you just trying to stir the pot ?

This would be like me saying there is a franchise that has tons of powder and primers for sale and they not share the name.

That's how I see this thread.....just sayin

I'm quite a bit younger than the SASS average, but he'd have had to been a whole lot bigger than me before I'd just drive away if he spit on anything of mine.

I know there's two sides to every story, but it kinda made me angry just reading that.

Yul I hope you get better soon, I also heard that capt cooper left for an emergency in the family. These are two senior waddies that had to leave for personnel problems not directly related and Ill bet that each had another waddie that traveled with them and had to leave also. So some one sees this adds them up and throw in the trouble maker and things get twisted.

KK -

No, I don't know any of the details as to why senior waddies left early.

I have no dog in this fight & I'm certainly not attempting to stir any pots.

However, when senior/experienced E-9's and O-6's leave their posts, it's reasonable to inform our members and perhaps to ask why it happened.

I can tell you as a junior waddie that the man I was working with... I'd have followed into combat.

I would like to give a big shout out to all the waddies and all the cowboys and cowgirls who stepped up when called upon or who just did it because they saw a need.

Matches like this can't be the successes they are without y'all.

Sadly, all of the senior & most experienced EOT waddie staff departed EOT on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not "everyone" left on Tuesday....SASS ordered a select few to leave the ranch and, as would be expected, their families went with them. Many of us didn't agree with the way this was handled, but we stayed on for the benefit of the shooters. If all of us who felt this was handled badly by SASS had left, the event would have suffered greatly.

Wednesday had another waddie with health concerns heading for lower elevation. I'm sure that the events of Tuesday played into that decision a bit when he and his crew pulled out, but he really did need to get out of there for his own good. I'm happy to here that he is on the mend and recovering nicely at this point.

We’re almost home (So. Carolina) – taking a rest day – so I would like to take this opportunity to thank SASS, The Wild Bunch, and EOT for providing Frontier Flossy and me with the opportunity to work as Waddies. It was an experience we will long cherish and remember. Hopefully, the next time we get to EOT it will be as shooters.

I would also like to thank Capt. Cooper for doing such a great job, as he has done in the past, of setting up the parking lot for me to handle when he and Yul headed back to California. Thanks Coop I hope I didn’t mess it up too badly. I also hope you will be returning next year to do it again.

“You’re more than welcome.” That is to all of the shooters who thanked the Waddies through me for the job we did to help them enjoy their time at EOT. Again, it was a pleasure doing it and I hope I satisfied all y’all when asking you to park in a specific spot. One gentleman told me he might have to fill out the “Meany” report on me. We both got a chuckle out of that. He liked the idea of the Meany Form – it might come in handy some other time. Any mistakes I made or if I did, inadvertently, offend anyone my apologies, it rests with me.

Lastly, congratulations to Brodie Lane for stepping up and doing an excellent job as the Waddie Ramrod when the change of command took place. She did an outstanding job and well deserves the Waddie Spirit Award. Well Done Brodie!

Thanks again,

Capt. Cowan

Enjoyed seeing and talking to you everyday at the parking lot at EOT, Capt. Quite impressed that being a new SASS member you went all of the way from SC to NM to volunteer your time to help at EOT. We hope to see you at the next Geechee Gunfighter monthly match.

Thanks Sadie, its always good seeing a smiling face from home. Flossy and I have started working on the Bucket List and EOT was at the top. We have some things going on, but will try to make the match.
