I can't help thinking about the girly man kid in grade school who whined at the class bully while he did whatever he wanted, then at some point he had no choice so he lashed out with a limp wristed left handed slap only to get a full beating by the class bully

Food for thought from President George Washington's "Farewell Address" in 1796...

"The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.

"Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence therefore it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities."

Transparent bluffing by current US government. There's no national will to do anything in Eastern Europe and all of Europe knows it.

A very poor job of both, it seems. I think if the current administration could cede Ukraine to Russia without any repercussions, they would be happy to do so in order to have "peace for our time." The only problem is, Russia wouldn't stop there, and now we have this that would be a pesky problem for the administration in letting Putin have more:

I love how old crap gets a new spin to meet current agendas.

In the late 90's the 173rd did an annual joint ops deal with Hungary and Poland, a few weeks in each country.

No idea if that was maintained through the recent wars... But they were still doin it in '02.

So I have a really hard seeing this as a "build up" as part of a "show of strength."

I know we constantly do joint ops with other countries. Unfortunately, the media on both the right (read: Fox) and the left ( NBC, for example) seem to be playing this as a "show of force" or "reassuring NATO allies." That leads me to believe that the administration wants that message to be played.

Each pointless, limp wristed, and ineffective move the US makes during this confrontation emboldens other screwballs. Like Kim Jung Loon

Just a routine training exercise we do all the time. The only time they get any press is when there's a crisis.
