SPF FS Duke Leather Vest
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Rum Crook, SASS #55339's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
Dang. You beat me to it, Percy. If it doesn't fit, my friend, let me know and I'll take it of your hands. See you Sunday at Coyote Valley? -
Well the next time I shoot this stage, I am definitely going to be buying a P and trying this out. It's just too good to pass up

How many SASS competitors are using original Colt SAA's?

I never tire of seeing this fantastic pistol -
Any good Gun/Wild West museums in San Fransisco?
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Scattergun Scotsman's topic in SASS Wire
Are you bringing guns? There are plenty of places to shoot. At least five clubs that I know of that are within an hour. If you've got some time to venture out, you could also hit Sacramento. There's a train museum and a whole slew of old west stuff up there. Very cool They're still here, but the store is in Richmond. Not sure if it has always been there or not. I get almost all of my clothes, hats and boots there. -
It can get tricky when shooting those odd stages that require both movement and a lot of shotgun targets. Both the movement and the weight loss as you shoot shells can have it slipping. It's pretty rare though. That gave me issues at first until I figured out where best to place the bottom concho I had the strings come untied once and the darn thing slid off during a stage, but hasn't happened since. What are you planning to replace the strings with?

As a gunfighter, any chance to get in a double tap is well welcomed by me.

Why would it be a P trap for gunfighters? Exactly

I use them almost exclusively for SASS. I started using them in cowboy shooting because that's what I could find at the time. I have used federals with great success as well, but never had a problem with CCI. I did buy 100 Winchester and had a 4% failure rate so I stopped using them and have stuck with my CCI primers since they have never failed me yet and I have easy local access to them. Keep in mind this is all large pistol primers. I have heard other tales of small pistol primers so I can't speak to that.

Someone at the SHOT mentioned that they would be comparable but about $100 more. There was a big debate about why it would cost more than the steel, but I don't think anyone ever settled it.

Question about shotshell belt for a double?
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to San Joaquin Shootist's topic in SASS Wire
I do. The tupelo bando works great. Especially for a double. I have a harder time using it with the 87, but I'm never going to be fast with that gun anyway. -
I have seen a few listed on gun broker, generally starting around $5000. Way too rich for my blood. I did contact Winchester recently and was told that the standard model 1866 will be in the January catalog, so perhaps we will see them this year. I am considering getting one myself.

This cracks me up. In order to get a driver's license, you need to go through a bunch of extraneous hoops, and yet that same driver's license can't be used to renew the driver's license.

New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
That's very interesting. So does that mean the lever is shaped opposite as well? You don't happen to have a picture of that do you? Silly question since I'm sure you do haha. -
New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
I understand what you're saying now. Instead of having that tab making them one side only, they're identical. Interesting. I have a slew of uberti and an original 73, but this will be my first new one -
Sure don't. Though I can tell you from experience that having a string break right as you are about to take that trophy buck is about the loudest sound I ever heard. I can still hear that every time I close my eyes and think of tasty venison.

New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
It only has one? Interesting. Is it on the left or right side? Or middle? I plan to for awhile anyway. I just didn't know if there is any stress issues I needed to worry about. Can't wait for the one I ordered from John Barleycorn to get to me. It's a really nice looking rifle for sure. I highly doubt I'll be running 3 second strings like Your Kaya, but I do plan to make a lot of smoke and flames with it. -
New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
Do you feel like the springs need any adjustment if one isn't looking to be super fast race ready? Basically, can the gun be used stock out of the box without worrying about the tension being too tight and damaging other parts of the gun like has been stated many times about the uberti? -

Pair? -
I have always been a big traditional archery hunter, taking game all across this country with a stick and string. When my son was born, I found that I couldn't hunt, or at least properly and still be home for dinner. So I dusted off some of the old hand guns and tried out this steel shooting thing a friend was talking about. It was pretty fun, but then I asked if I could use my single action (a black hawk in 45 colt used for backup in bear country) just for fun and to see how proficient I was with it. They said no because it was too hard to clear on the line, and that I should look into something called cowboy action shooting. I had never heard of it, so I checked it out and went to a match the next weekend. I have been to a lot of cowboy matches and spent a lot of money along the way, but I haven't been back to that steel shoot since. Maybe they should have let me shoot that black hawk just once.

Holster Questions for 7 1/2" Vaquero .45 Colt
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Pat Riot's topic in SASS Wire
I shoot with a guy that has the short one as a crossdraw and the long one in a buscadero rig. He's a pretty short fellow and the arrangement works well for him. And it looks pretty cool. -
How many SASS competitors are using original Colt SAA's?
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to NewHampshireTom's topic in SASS Wire
I've been using a mismatched pair of 3rd gen, one nickel, one blue, almost since I started. All with black powder. Now I am using a really beautiful 2nd gen and an uberti 1871/72 open top because I like that combination for looks as well as performance. If you can't play the game with beautiful guns, what's the point?
