The two prime requisites are functional and cheap! This will be a truck/woods gun.

Thanks, Sam!  I’m really wanting a used one that shows its age. “Rode hard and put up wet,”  as my father used to say.

 

I have a project in mind that it would be a travesty to use a nice gun for, so I’m serious about the condition described.  AND! Since it’ll be used for other than SASS shooting, the cheap part is also a requisite. A repairable non functioning rifle is also a consideration so long as the bore is decent and the gun is pretty much all there.

Just to be clear!  It doesn’t necessarily HAFTA be a Rossi!

 

I just figured that a Rossi would be the most likely to be the least expensive.  
 

As far as that goes, (once I gave it some thought) so long as it’s .45 Colt, I COULD replace the barrel.  I do want one that’ll hold at least ten rounds.

I have one in 44 Mag with personalized butt stock so I would keep the butt stock.  This is not a beater though, so not sure if it fits what you're looking for with all those conditions?

I recently sold one in .44 mag. It was the only gun I had in that caliber and I wasn’t interested in buying or reloading ammunition to keep and use for just one gun.

 

My plan is to use the .45 gun as a woods companion to my ,45 Blackhawk.

As I said, CHEAP!!  I am probably dreaming here, but I’m looking for a $400.00 “fixer upper” that I can get to working fairly smoothly and bang around in the woods or throw under the seat of the truck without worrying about ruining a nice rifle.

While this isn't a beater, it's not far from what you're looking for, I think?

I’m looking for one in .45 Colt. It’s going to be mostly a truck/woods gun for shooting my “Ruger Only” ammo.

Gladly!!  I’ll get with you after the first of the year!  That Baikal was the last one that Papa Dave worked on. He passed away before he could complete it.  I had another gunsmith reassemble it and put a new bead sight on it, but I’d like to make it a little easier to load and unload.

I’m still looking! Had a shot at one on Gunbroker, but got outbid.  There are some carbines on GrabaGun and Buds, but I really want a rifle and preferably an octagon barrel.

 

Let’s run this up to the top again.  I can afford to be patient and I really don’t want to beat up a brand new gun.

Broke down and bought a new one!!  Found a 20” rifle for just over $400.00.  It’s got a round barrel, but I might change that later.

 

It’ll be here before Christmas with any luck!
