Blackwater 53393 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) What the ad says! I’m looking for a used ‘92 in shootable condition. The two prime requisites are functional and cheap! This will be a truck/woods gun. Please see follow up posts!! Whatcha’got?? Edited December 18, 2024 by Blackwater 53393 Quote
Sam Sackett Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I felt your pain. I looked for one for a long time. Finally found one last year in pristine condition. Got lucky. Good luck on your hunt. Sam Sackett Quote

I’m really wanting a used one that shows its age. “Rode hard and put up wet,” as my father used to say. I have a project in mind that it would be a travesty to use a nice gun for, so I’m serious about the condition described. AND! Since it’ll be used for other than SASS shooting, the cheap part is also a requisite. A repairable non functioning rifle is also a consideration so long as the bore is decent and the gun is pretty much all there. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) Just to be clear! It doesn’t necessarily HAFTA be a Rossi! I just figured that a Rossi would be the most likely to be the least expensive. As far as that goes, (once I gave it some thought) so long as it’s .45 Colt, I COULD replace the barrel. I do want one that’ll hold at least ten rounds. Edited December 6, 2024 by Blackwater 53393 Quote

Cockney Rebel Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I have one in 44 Mag with personalized butt stock so I would keep the butt stock. This is not a beater though, so not sure if it fits what you're looking for with all those conditions? Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Thanks for the offer, Reb! I appreciate it. I recently sold one in .44 mag. It was the only gun I had in that caliber and I wasn’t interested in buying or reloading ammunition to keep and use for just one gun. My plan is to use the .45 gun as a woods companion to my ,45 Blackhawk. Again! Thank you for the offer. Quote
Zach Taylor,SASS#14359 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 PM me, I have a Rossi 92, 24 in barrel, 45 cal, octogal barrel, stainless steel finish, all springs are from Steves Gunz. have had the gun for about 20 years, don't use it as I shoot mostly 38 and 357. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Thanks folks! Some nice rifles there, but a bit too nice for what I’m looking for. C’mon! Drag out those rifles that you’re embarrassed for people to see!! Yeah!! The ones you really want gone! (Ya’know, cheap!) Quote
Zach Taylor,SASS#14359 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Whats your price range ? Quote

I am probably dreaming here, but I’m looking for a $400.00 “fixer upper” that I can get to working fairly smoothly and bang around in the woods or throw under the seat of the truck without worrying about ruining a nice rifle. I want the old gun that you’d be embarrassed to put on the loading table at a monthly match. Dinged up but not too rusty, chipped or slightly cracked furniture, just so long as it shoots. Quote

While this isn't a beater, it's not far from what you're looking for, I think? If I don’t find what I’m really looking for in the next few days, I’ll probably buy one of these and get a replacement barrel and forestock for it a little later. Quote
Johnny Meadows,SASS#28485L Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I have an older Rossi, without the top mount safety, but it also is in 44 mag. I'll ship it for $490.00. I have many Grandkids that are looking for Christmas presents, so need more money to fill their wishes. Johnny Meadows Quote

It’s going to be mostly a truck/woods gun for shooting my “Ruger Only” ammo. I DO have a Baikal double that I may want to send to ya’ after the first of the year, if you’re still working on them. Johnny Meadows,SASS#28485L Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Still working. I made the post knowing that you were looking for a 45, but being that I can't list guns for sale on SASS, I thought that I would state that I had the 44 hoping that someone looking for one might see it. Thank you, JM 2 1 Quote

Thank you, JM Gladly!! I’ll get with you after the first of the year! That Baikal was the last one that Papa Dave worked on. He passed away before he could complete it. I had another gunsmith reassemble it and put a new bead sight on it, but I’d like to make it a little easier to load and unload. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) I’m still looking! Had a shot at one on Gunbroker, but got outbid. There are some carbines on GrabaGun and Buds, but I really want a rifle and preferably an octagon barrel. Let’s run this up to the top again. I can afford to be patient and I really don’t want to beat up a brand new gun. Edited December 16, 2024 by Blackwater 53393 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 Broke down and bought a new one!! Found a 20” rifle for just over $400.00. It’s got a round barrel, but I might change that later. It’ll be here before Christmas with any luck! Thanks to all of you that tried to help and a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you!!
