Buckshot Bear Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Spinning Ice Bullets? ....... I've never seen anything like this, before I get too excited....is this real???
Alpo Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I have heard of it before. I have seen video. Might be that same video. But it does make sense. I've shot dirt at my feet, and the bullet just goes in a couple inches. But the dirt has so much friction that it stops the spinning. If the ice is thick enough it should prevent penetration, and ice is slick, so it might sit there and spin. Spinning should produce heat, which should melt the ice enough to give it a smooth surface to spin on. I don't know if it's real, but it does seem possible.
Pat Riot Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I can’t figure out how the bullet ended up about 3 feet (.91 meters) closer than where the gun was aimed. I have never heard of this either.
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Mythbusters tested and confirmed it.

It might be a magic ice patch…no wait, it’s one of this icy knoll bullets and it went into the ice and it’s rotation made it move erratically through the ice to pop up where it did but it went no further because of the warmer air layer right on top of the ice… Yeah, that’s it…
Buckshot Bear Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 Why didn't it penetrate the ice?

Eyesa Horg Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I'm always amazed at how fast snow stop a bullet.

I remember when they made me the duty gunner for the motor whaleboats. My job was to use an M14 to keep sharks away from anyone in the water. I asked where I should aim to kill the sharks and the gunnery chief said “You don’t aim at the sharks. You shoot at the water to get the shark to chase your bullets and not the man in the water. Besides, 7.62 loses all its power within the first 4 or 5 feet of water so you’d probably just pi** the shark off by shooting at it.” Luckily I never had to deal with sharks when men were in the water.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Must sign "IN" to prove I'm not a Bot. Not doin dat.
Eyesa Horg Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 For sure, shot at a beaver in my brook with a 1911 and watched the bullet roll off it's back!

Another Mythbusters test. They tested shooting various guns into a swimming pool. They found that if you were 3 feet underwater, a handgun bullet won't have the energy to do any damage. All the rifle rounds, up to a .50BMG broke up as soon as they hit the water. They could only find small fragments of them.
Quiet Burp Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 So what's the call on the first video clip that was posted.....BS or real?

It’s weird. If it looks like the Mythbusters clip, it's real. Watch the Mythbusters clip, they did it and were able to repeat it once they got the trajectory right.
