Visiting a SASS Club

I had the pleasure of visiting the Sandusky County Regulators on Sat, July 13th for their monthly shoot.  A hot, endurance sapping humid day filled with good cheer, valiant attempts at shooting prowess and comraderie.  I overslept a bit, and missed the safety meeting, but arrived in time to see the beginning of the first stage.  I took a number of photographs and a couple of videos, but my GoPro has been uncooperative in regurgitating its contents.  Suffice to say, the folks present were welcoming, and several took the time to introduce themselves and offered to answer any questions I might have about Cowboy Action Shooting and SASS.

After their shoot was over and before steel was put away, I was offered the chance to shoot someone's guns and ammo, which I accepted, although a little reluctant to embarrass myself.  Thankfully, I didn't, although I still find Rugers particularly uncomfortable.  The 20" octagon barreled '73 was a little heavier than my own 18-½" version, being only ½ octagon, but the Stoeger double trigger coach gun was like an old friend!  Not having leather that fit lead to staging the six+ shotshells lead to one not being picked up when I missed, and the heavier bbl on the '73 caused me to swing past my last shot with the rifle.

The very slight breeze offered some respite from the humidity along with the large shade trees along the back of the range!  I did stand in as ULTO for a stage and offered moral support for those putting away steel after the match.

Anyone looking for a really great range and club to visit and in the North Central part of OH, need look no further than the Sandusky County Regulators.  To all, I thank for the great day away from work!

It is a great club with great people running it. We don't get there as often as we would like to as it is a 3 hour drive and there are two other clubs that are closer that shoot the same day. We try to make their 3 day annual and will be there in September. Look them up and come on over for their annual. You won't be sorry.

I usually go to this club and I had a slight little car problem Saturday so I didn't want to chance driving an hour and a half. Getting it fixed today under warranty.

This is a great club and awesome people. I will be going to their 3 day in September for sure!

+1 to shooting at Sandusky.
Their 3-day Annual shoot is coming up the second weekend in September.
Always a great time.
Worth the trip!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting our club.  I'm a new member of SASS and the Sandusky Regulators.  I'd never heard of CAS until a member of another club I shot Bullseye with told me and a friend about it and recommended we come out and visit a match last year.   From somebody unfamiliar and used to precision indoor shooting I was definitely out of my element but everybody was having so much fun and I was always attended by one of the shooters explaining what was happening and answering questions.   We kept coming back to watch and ultimately couldn't resist.   It's a great group and I'm proud to be a part of it now.   I've visited several other matches in my short time with SASS  and my experience at other clubs has been similar and overwhelmingly positive.  I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you when you were here Saturday but you must've been hanging out with the other posse.   I'm happy they gave you the kind of welcome reserved for every visitor and new spectator that drops by but I would've been surprised by anything less.

i think you will find that most places you might travel , ive done it in three states so far and enjoyed it every time a few for over two decades now , im looking to add a couple more in the coming years - one is posting videos today , if my wife and i move in the next couple years this whole picture muht change drastically as the choices we are looking at are way far away , the good thing is i believe you will find this everwhere in the country and abroad about sass people , , i cold be wrong but i dont think so ,

ive had folks offer me guns to shoot , ammo o to shoot ,  food to eat , tools to fix , parts to fix , and a place to stay .....these are folks i had never met before .............and the food was excellent , the ammo shot well , the guns saved my dats shooting  , thye tools kept me shooting midway thru ,

so i do the same , i offer when i have and i always carry tools on my cart that might be needed - no chair for me , i bring extra ammo and tools and still travel light , my friend has a trauma kit just because ................he knows how to use it ,

i also always have aspirin/tylenol/advil  because my back sometimes goes out and u need hourly meds when that happens sao i mix them up , to allow that but ill let someone help themselves if need arises , the campfire is burning and the cook gear is available if you wish to drop by , we always have extra food , plenty of conversation and ill share a ceegar as long as its not my last one , i have the lighter and the cutter or punch ,

Hey Griff ! I shot there for a few years when I lived in Ohio. Good bunch of cowfolk up there. If ya ever get back there tell Prairie Dog & Rye Miles I said HOWDY". Ya might want to duck afterwards but they may have forgiven me by now !  :D:D

Edit: If you get up around I-71 & I-70 you should try to make it to TUSCO LONG RIDERS. I shot with Split Rail & Stone Creek Drifter many times there.

Great Club and a bunch of great cowboys and cowgirls.  Used to frequent this club when I used to live in Ohio until I retired and moved to Florida.  Great pics, brings back great memories.  Another great club about 45 minutes east of Sandusky is the Firelands Peacemakers.
