Trailrider #896
A millimeter or two or if Trump had turned his head to the left... Why in hell there weren't security personnel on top of that building is unbelievable! Of course, the conspiracy theorists are already going apes#i+, but the tone of this election campaign has got to come down to discussing issues and proposed actions, NOT calling each other names! Of course there will be a call to outlaw "assault rifles", etc., etc., but the real problem is mental health care or lack of it, combined with radicalization of individuals and even groups. Alpo
And we can't forget James Earl Ray. I wondered about that, many times. The actor went by the name Wilkes Booth. The Marine that defected to Russia went by the name Lee Oswald. Not John Wilkes, not Lee Harvey. So why did they give them all three names in history books? And you suppose that's the reason that it's always "Leroy Jethro Gibbs"? Not just Leroy, like they called him when he was a kid. Not just Jethro like all his friends say. Leroy Jethro. Because he kills people at long range with a rifle?

First time he looked at me and said, "Who are you and why are you here?" I showed him the slip, and said I was as confused as he was. Turned out that he wanted Jose (who went by Joe) Luis Lovell, a Mexican kid, not Joseph (who goes by Joe) Richard Lovell, a thoroughly non-Mexican kid. Eventually they got it right. Middle names are useful identifiers.

Middle names are useful identifiers. I don’t have a middle name, just an initial. My father’s family had a tradition of naming the male offspring with just an initial but the females had middle names. I asked long ago why that was and nobody had an explanation. Both of my sons have middle names.
Cypress Sun
Probably because the press (media these days) use the name on his/her birth certificate. If I had to guess, I'd guess that 85% of all people, born in the US, have a first, middle and last name...especially in the South.
Rye Miles #13621
My middle name is actually my Catholic confirmation name. Our family didn’t use middle names. I made my confirmation at about 12 yrs old. Years ago I was moving in an apartment and I couldn’t get the electricity turned on because they said I had a past due balance. The only way it was straightened it out was the other guy’s middle name was different than mine. I always use my middle name for legal purposes even though it’s not on my birth certificate. Warden Callaway
I had (now passed on) was always called "Kieth Johnson" even though his name was Kieth Eugene Butcher. Seems the family had a friend named Johnson so they just modified Kieth's name to honor him, I'm guessing. Anyway, Conspiracy Theory is one of my favorite movies. Pat Riot
They use 3 names to make they aren’t painting anyone with a bad brush. It’s less likely someone has the same three names than if they use two. I have a nephew that has May first and last name but not my middle name. When he was 18-22 years old he was a bit of a hellion. I always made sure I use all 3 of my names when completing official documents. When I bought my first gun here in WV the clerk put my info into the system here and my name was flagged. Just as soon as he said “Your name flagged on outlet system. I can’t sell you…Well, I’ll be darned. Now you’re unflagged. Okay, that’ll be $369.” (I bought a Kel Tech CP33 on sale) I’m sure my nephew’s name popped up until the system or someone realized I was the “clean” one. It hasn’t happened since.
