Subdeacon Joe Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 #onthisday On 15 June 1917, after officials determined that San Diego, California, was “well fitted in every way to be the station for the permanent force of Marines,” the U.S. Navy purchased 232 acres and officials donated 500 acres of adjoining municipally-owned tidal land to establish a Marine Corps base for the West Coast expeditionary force. In 1921, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (MCRDSD) was formally commissioned, and in 1923, it became the primary recruiting center for the west coast. More than one hundred years later, the Marine Corps still trains recruits at MCRD San Diego. Sound off, MCRDSD alumni! #USMC #Museum #History #USMCMuseum #MCRDSanDiego #Marines #SemperFi

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I started at PI and later served at San Diego so I have memories and allegiances on both coasts. I don't see much difference between one or the other beyond climate and terrain.
