Myron Swaim Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Picked up a Mr. Bulletfeeder for my Dillon 650….I shoot 45lc 160gr rnfp. I cannot get it to work. Double feeds. Seems like it would only work long term with powder coated bullets. I haven’t even set up the collator yet. Anyone else have any experience with one? Thanks, Myron
Idaho Gunslinger Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Mine is one of the 3D printed clones and I couldn't get it to work with 180gr or lighter 45 cal bullets. It wouldn't reliably flip them over or it would flip over right side up ones too when I got it to reliably flip over upside down ones. My conclusion was that since they are as tall as they are wide they just won't work right. Since you are getting double feeds I suspect them being too short is causing the problem. If there is a solution for you I don't have it though. I can say mine (3D printed knock off) will feed 230gr round nose reliably. I haven't tried 200gr.
Tarheel Doc Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 If dropping two bullets at a time. Double alpha academy sells a spring clamp device that helps prevent double feeds. It is worth purchasing.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I have two. You cannot use lubed lead bullets. You must use coated bullets. The 160 is almost as long as it is wide so it probably won't work properly. The nose guide adjustments are critical for flipping nose down bullets. Again, the 160 grain bullets may not have enough length to width ratio to work properly. Mine gave me fits and it took a while to get them to work with light for caliber bullets. I am missing something. How are you testing the bullet feeder if you have not set up the collator?
Too Tall Bob Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 And give DAA a call and explain your problem. They should be able to help yoy
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Here are the two bullet nose guides that are available. The one on the left is the original style that came with my machines. They use shims to set the bullet length adjustment. I had to buy additional shims as the stock guide did not have enough shims for short bullets. On the right is the new style guide. It was an accessory when I bought them, maybe they come with the newer machines. The height adjustment is screw adjustable. This makes making fine adjustments easier. I just bought a Frankfort Arsenal X-10 and their bullet feeder. Same issues. At least their manual tells you the feeder will not work with all bullets. I have some bullets that feed well. Other styles won't feed at all and jam the feeder. The Frankfort manual also lists minimum and maximum bullet lengths that will work with their feeder. Double Alpha does not tell you these things. You have to find them out for youself through trial and error. You may have to try a few different bullet nose profiles.
Slick McClade Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I have been using one for years. I’ve used 90gr-158gr 38’s and currently running 160gr-165gr 45C. There should be little black plastic shems that come with the machine. These are for putting in front of the ramp so it will flip shorter nose bullets. Also if it’s dropping two bullets you’ll need to take the plastic dropped tube out if the tool head and adjust the little “bb’s” inside the tube for the shorter bullets. This will allow it to drop only one bullet instead of two. They are VERY aggravating to set up but once you do, they work pretty good . Not always 100% but good enough to keep using it 😁. Hope the above makes sense and helps. Slick

Another thing that is very useful is a digital level. You can get these pretty cheap off the Internet and they are very useful when setting the angle of the feeder. A swag may not be good enough.

Getting short fat bullets to flip properly is an exercise in micro-adjustments of the flip plate. The angle of the feeder is critical also. I also have one of the 3d printed clones and I have been completely successful in feeding nose-down to my Lee APP press feeding the Lee 452-200 RF all the way down to a .380 95gr hollow point from MP molds.
Myron Swaim Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I am testing, putting bullets in the tube, while trying to set up the dropper…haven’t gotten as far as the collator.
Myron Swaim Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Thanks for all the replies…sounds like the spring is what I need… Myron
Knucky McPee Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Excellent advise by all for you Myron. One item that wasn't talked about for the drop two problem is th output spring is too tight. Rotate the Mr. Bullet feeder on you case feeder to give more slack in the spring. Not too much because that will lead to another problem. Get one of the pro droppers. Since the dropper is gravity powered, by increasing the weight of the assembly we are able to get a more reliable and more consistent performance. In the case of the PRO dropper, the brass section is twice as long and so twice as heavy as the original Mr.Bulletfeeder, preventing hang-up which could happen due to excessive feed-spring sideways tension or friction to the dropper. As mentioned they are a pain to get setup.
Waco Jim Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Mine is about 16 months old and after a bit of adjusting it now feeds near perfect. Maybe an upside down bullet out of every 200. I'm loading .357 dia, 105 gr cast bullets with no lube groove and coated. Lubbed bullets will gum up the machine pretty quickly. My Mister Bullet is set up on a Dillon 1100 and it's blazing fast and I don't pay much attention to the Mr Bullet sight glass watching for up side down bullets. If there is one, two bullets will drop so I catch it there. I love this thing and it has cut my loading time in half or better.
Toranado, SASS # 58447 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Running Mr Bullet feeder for about 2 years on my dillion 650. Using 38sp, 105 gr coated bullets. Love it, runs great. Spend a little time at beginning getting the right angle for mounting the feeder but after that runs like a top and help me crank out rounds very fast.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Well, I have found using my left hand, with both of my 650s works quite well. No problem getting the bullets nose up at all. No special springs or levels were needed. Don't worry about the ability to load fast. I just listen to the CD player and enjoy my loading session.
