The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 WOW, that's a bunch of information! TNX
Pat Riot Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Thanks Dave. That’s some great history. Now, here’s a question for everyone checking out those early hand loading tools. Which tools would you choose to do your hand loads if you were living back in the early 1900’s? I like the looks of the Winchester reloading tools, but that equipment from Ideal is the real humdinger.
J-BAR #18287 Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 The sheer number of choices is a testament to how important reloading, and shooting in general, was at that time in our history. How far we have come...

I'd likely go with the one made by the same company that made the firearm. Or that came witvit.
Injun Ryder, SASS #36201L Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I like the Winchester tools. My collection: 44-40 reloads using the 1875 Winchester Reloading Tool: I made the powder measure for my 44-40 loads.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 VERY cool find, Dave! I have an Ideal No. 1 Bullet Lubricator and Sizer. Elegant little thing; I haven't used it in years, but I have used it a lot.

Pat Riot Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Years ago, early 80’s. A neighbor of mine in his late 80’s offered me his Ideal reloading equipment. This stuff was old and well used and I was young and dumb about things like this, but I thanked him and declined. I truly had no room to use it and had nowhere to put it. Knowing what I know now I would have gladly taken it then taken him to a great steak dinner some place.
Warden Callaway Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Got a few old tools. They just come by accident now and then.
