Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619 Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 And the Tuscaloosa came through WWII unscathed, unlike its sisters...
Pat Riot Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 We used to have a Chief on my ship that would get on his crew’s backs to work faster and he would yell out “C’mon you Swabs! You’d never last on a World War Two Cruiser! Back then the men were hard and the sheep were nervous!” Then he’d laugh like crazy. He was actually a good Chief to work for according to his guys. He was always altering jokes to meet his needs.

Alpo Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Well hell. I posted this 2 hours ago. But apparently I did not click submit.
Alpo Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I just watched the official video, and two thoughts came to mind. That Indian had a whole lot of armpit hair. Generally Indians on TV westerns don't have body hair. I never noticed if they had armpit hair before but I think it would have if I had seen it. Second, is that a recruiting video for the Soviet navy? Cuz they kept talking about protecting the Rodina, and we ain't got one of them.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 My son was aboard the U. S. S. Tuscaloosa 1187... one of the last LSTs. he got office hours for lashing himself to a stanchion during a typhoon. I asked him why. He said "I just wanted to see what it was like." Dumb ass! That's like something I would have done.

Off duty we called him Uncle Jack If you screwed up you got punished. However, he was always fair and as long as you learned your lesson he never held past acts against you.
