Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Put 'em in a shoe-box-sized plastic tub with some warm soapy water. Don't remove the nipples. Use an old toothbrush dipped in the soapy water to clean the outside surfaces and cylinder face & rachet ends Set it nipple-end-down in the water and, Use one of these daubers to go up-n-down in the cylinder chambers. (https://www.amazon.com/Daubers-Stecksstore-3445-00-Leather-Sealers/dp/B010KW2CNU/ref=asc_df_B010KW2CNU/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563637436245&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7285175687871577437&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9015317&hvtargid=pla-1523523026288&psc=1&mcid=2355f492053b35029990299234cf3d68&gclid=Cj0KCQiApOyqBhDlARIsAGfnyMpqmlSnZ5qHZRk_zXe-Qa_uW3ob1BiqoPLfY3Bi3-u3xKzwoIXflf8aAnfuEALw_wcB) It will clean the walls & flush a bunch of soapy water thru the nipples. Take out &, using a paper-towel-wrapped dowel, dry the cylinder chambers It will get out the remaining residue. Use a q-tip to get down by the nipples. Just twirl it between two fingers. Use a pipe cleaner to get any remaining fouling inside each nipple. Wipe it down with a clean paper towel. Hose down inside & outside with WD-40 & set on a paper towel to "dry" Coat each chamber with ballistol or rem-oil or whatever you use to prevent rust. Takes longer for me to type this than to actually do it. Have fun! --Dawg Edited November 20 by Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 4
High Plains Smokey
Ballistol, have used it for several years. Remove the nipples, spray everything good, brush and wipe clean.

Rooster Ron Wayne
I have shot with and with out extra cylinders . Having to load all day sucks. You can't participate with the Posse. I would rather load all my cylinders at home and just cap on the range . Visit with other Pards and help do posse duties . As far as cleaning goes . There is a Thousand different ways and find what works best for you and enjoy the process. Prairie Dawg already gave you the way most of us do it after years of trying different things . If you love shooting Cap Guns . It's just part of the process . Really really try to enjoy it. Rooster
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Takes me 2-3 shooters to load my guns while checking shooters at the unloading table. After that, I run the timer, spot, etc. No Problemo. After you've shot cap guns for a while, you can load quickly & efficiently, and then do your posse duties. I went the 12 cylinder route for a coupla months years ago. Didn't care for it. But, as Rooster points out, there are lots of ways to do the cap gun thing, and most work well. So, find what works best for you & go with it. --Dawg

Reload in the span of 2 to 3 shooters and still have plenty of time to do posse chores. 18 minutes ago, Phantom, SASS #54973 said: You can reload both revolvers in about 4 minutes? Phantom Yep. Sedalia Dave
Start with thoroughly cleaned cylinders with the nipples removed. Apply anti-size to the nipple threads and install them. Then do as Prairie Dawg stated and you'll have them clean in no time.

It would be great to start a new thread on how to reload as fast as possible. Since I am just getting into this, I was thinking the paper cartridge route sounds easier than loose powder. Phantom I did both. Never had the hankering to have spare cylinders. After my turn shooting (hopefully 2nd or 3rd in line), I'd run the ULT. A quick wipe down and clean, then recharge the cylinders between Shooters that were clearing their weapons. Sometimes the posse was big enough so someone would spare me from that duty, and I'd then go help do something else. As far as cleaning goes.... Murphy's mix of equal parts along with rubbing alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide. Never had an issue with build up. Rinsed with clean water, dried and oiled with Balistol. Never harmed the finishes. Of course, this was back when I was shooting Frontiersman. Nowadays, it's FC. But I still use my Murphy's Mix.
Cpt Dan Blodgett, SASS #75655
Always boiled water added soap Use water proof heavy duty dishwashing gloves brushed the outside used bore mop in chambers creating a pump action as described by Prairie Dawg. Rinsed in damn near boiling water. As they got good and hot they dried nearly immediately. Sometimes would pull nipples sometimes not. If you do pull nipples use anti seize when re-installing
