WTC- empty hull in 97

Order is rifle, shotgun, revolvers. After shooting his last shotgun shot with his 97, he pulls the slide back all the way, the empty hull comes all the way out of the chamber but does not eject. He puts the gun down and starts to run to the revolver location. Someone yells "hull, hull". Visibly annoyed, he comes back and removes the hull. Afterwards, he asks if he really needed to fix that. No one seems to know for sure.

I'm thinking, no different than a case laying in a rifle. MSV if not corrected before the next gun. JMHO, didn't look it up, but going from one I received. :(

Minor safety, page 21-22 SHB. - "Leaving empty or live round(s) in a magazine, action, or carrier of the long gun in which it was loaded".

The shooter was saved a 10 penalty for being called back, as it can be corrected before firing the next gun.

that it should be different than a double because it isn't in the chamber

With a live round it would have made a difference, SDQ vs. (correctable) MSV.

But the SHB is very clear in this case:

MSV for Leaving empty or live round(s) in a magazine, action, or carrier of the long gun in which it was loaded. (SHB p.22)

and

SHB p.15: A shotgun is considered SAFE to leave the shooter’s hands in the following condition only (some conditions may be corrected before firing the next firearm) :

- Empty.

Refresher RO courses are a very good way to avoid confusion on the gun line.

NO CALL.

Saved from a MSV penalty for "Leaving empty or live round(s) in a magazine, action, or carrier of the long gun in which it was loaded." SHB p.22

by PROPER COACHING.

Should have THANKED whoever yelled "hull, hull" before he fired a revolver.

Suggest that at least a few club members READ the SHB and attend RO Courses.
