Frybread Fred Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Got a decent deal on a .357 Cattleman, but absolutely HATED the finish. Looked like it was spray painted by Earl Sheib. So with a little elbow grease I turned it into something much more appealing IMO. Also changed the hammer spring and trigger spring, a little polishing here and there and it's mo'betta.
Not Dead Ed Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Is the first pic a before pic? It looks like someone cerakoted the poor thing. It looks almost like a Ruger Wrangler. your afters have given it a nice looking patina. Much better.
Seven Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 great, from Earl Shieb paint job to a Mo Betta shirt. you sir are a Magician,,,,

thespaniard Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Looks very nice I like the knife as well
Rip Snorter Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Big improvement anything an improvement on that one, and yours well done. . I always wonder about the antiqued look on guns direct from manufacturers. Supposed to be somehow more "Authentic". The guns didn't look old back in the day, and those used and cared for still look good today.
Warden Callaway Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Hard to believe that I've bought two Colt SAAs that some previous owners had scrubbed the factory finish off.. I've had both refinished by Spring Creek Armory in Ten Sleep Wyoming. The upper one is the refinished one. Lower one was made in 2019.
Rip Snorter Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 They do nice work! Hadn't heard of them, will have to check them out.

Bill does many other things besides refinishing. He has welded and recut notches on several hammers for me. On the first generation gun he TIG welded the sight blade to original height and contour. https://springcreekarmory.com/

However the factory finish on the new Cattleman had to go.......
Diamond Jake Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Just to be fair to Uberti, that isn't the standard finish on all Cattleman revolvers. They have several finish options, that particular one being the cheapest.

Really did not bother me, as I said I got a decent deal on it and I know from past experience how to remove the ugly. I have a 45lc that looks pretty much the same, guy I bought it from told me how he did it. Little oil, a couple scotch brite pads, I cheated and used a wheel that had a scrub pad like material on my Dremel. Took about 4 of them, but did much quicker than pads by hand only.
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 When Uberti first came out with that finish, ~20 yrs ago, it was called Millenium Finish. I don't know if they still call it that. Usually guns with that finish will also have brass gripframes as those are also cheaper than steel (that's why a Navy grip opentop costs less than Army grip). Antiqueing them is the way to go, IMO.
Possum Stu Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Nice work! I have a .45 in the same configuration and finish. I’ve been considering giving it the same treatment you did.
watab kid Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 i like the new look it resembles something id expect to see at a shoot as opposed to my first impression that it looked like a wrangler - and not one i would want
High Spade Mikey Wilson Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 I have two sets of Uberti Cattleman Hombre pistols. Personally I like the parkerized look. To each his own.
