Things that Work

Recommended Posts

Seems with 3D printing and high speed CNC machines people make all kinds of product no one had even thought of just a couple of years ago.  Some are junk but some actually do something useful.  Here are three that work well.  I use a Mec Sizemaster for my cowboy loads and have always hated the cheap poorly fitting little flat tray that catches the spent primers.  I store my loader on top of a safe when it is not is use and that tray is always moving around or falling out and dumping primers.  I saw this 3D printed tray on FleaBay that is supposed to fit better and has two little magnets in the front edge that stick on the cross bar underneath the Sizemaster to keep it from falling out.  The thing fits and actually works as advertised!  The last photo shows two other products that actually work.  The Slix case gauge and crimp smoother outer (the orange thing) and the Roger Rapid case squisher and taperer (the silver thing mounted on an old Mec case conditioner).

Where did you get and how did you mount the shell holder to the mec conditioner.  Have a conditioner I want to convert as you did but can’t seem to find a shell holder anywhere.
Thanks LF.

It was strange.  I was looking on EBay and happened to see a Schissel shell holder in 12 gauge so I bought it "just in case" I ever needed one. Schissel has been out of business for 60 years.  After I got the die from Roger and located a Mec case conditioner it turned out the shank on the shell holder was the same nominal size as the primer drop hole in the press.  All I had to do was run a reamer in the press hole to round out the hole.  The nut on the shell holder just exactly fit in between the frame rails of the press.  I made a delrin spacer and adjusted the length of the spacer in a lathe so that when the shell holder was twisted into the nut from the top (there was no way to turn the nut from below) and tightened it clocked to the proper position for inserting the shell.

something I considered was getting a shell holder replacement part from MEC and then cutting it down and drill/tap it to top of my conditioner.

does cost $18, give or take and shipping on top but they are available and could be made to work
