how to protect 1897 SG pistol grip area?

howdy!  I load my 1897 with a strong hand with 2 shells at a time - so one is held in my hand when first shot fired.  that shell rubs on my stock pistol grip area leaving ugly marks after only 3 matches and some practice...  what can be done about it short of taping it up?  I can't be the only one who has this problem

thanks

Tape...oh no...not again.

Tape is a no-no.

If you are concerned about the cosmetics of your competition firearms, yer probably in for a world of disappointment. Try looking for beat up stocks and use them...switch 'em out so to save your pretty wood.

Good luck...

I also grab 2 with strong hand (right) but never touch the stock with them.

I keep them with my fingers.   I do not palm them.

Plus, once my shooting starts, I really don't touch the pistol grip area.  I only

come down with my trigger finger to the trigger.

Exactly.

I think I might have one of my 'Dryfire' practice videos that show it on Youtube.

But very few folks ever watch em..... ;)

OR:  Skip the Pump Handle shotgun and just source up a nice simple Hammer Double

Or shoot left handed.   And load with the right hand.

I pull 4 shells and never get any shell scuffs on the wrist of my 97.

The forearm on the other hand looks like a woodchuck attacked it.

Our good OLE buddy, Red Knee, does the left hand shooting and right hand load

technique.  He also pulls 4.  He's also lightning fast.....

We had so much in common until you referenced speed.

Sorri.....

Being 70 has made me think I'm a tad slower.

I still feel nimble (Santa Fe River Stan calls me 'NimbleSOB') with no restricted arm/hand/finger

problems.

But eye sight, mixed with NO hearing, keeps me out of the Top Gun categories.

Can't complain...... life is good!
