How to blacken alum grip frames

Recommended Posts

The grip frames on my wife's Single Sixes are aluminum and looking pretty bad. I bought some Birchwood Alum Black but thought I'd see if anyone has a better idea.

Brownells AlumaHyde has served me well over the years.

I know the Birchwood Alum Black did not work well for me.  It just comes off.

So go with their recommendation.

Polish 'em up.  Make 'em look Silver Plate.

Duracoat.

My 97 barrel Duracoat has held up for 6 years.

I used to soak aluminum AN fittings with Easy-off to turn them black for hotrods I had built.

Might work.

I'd prefer cerakote over duracoat. Both are better than trying to "blue" the aluminum. I had a set done awhile back in cerakote in some gun metal color. Turned out great.
