Boulder Canyon Bob# 32052L Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 The grip frames on my wife's Single Sixes are aluminum and looking pretty bad. I bought some Birchwood Alum Black but thought I'd see if anyone has a better idea.
DeaconKC Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Brownells AlumaHyde has served me well over the years.
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 see above . Alumahide . best way to go CB
Marauder SASS #13056 Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 I know the Birchwood Alum Black did not work well for me. It just comes off. So go with their recommendation.
Marauder SASS #13056 Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 I enjoyed reading the instructions too https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/metal-prep-coloring/paint-finishes/air-cure-aerosol-paints/aluma-hyde-ii-prod1117.aspx
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Polish 'em up. Make 'em look Silver Plate.
Tom Bullweed Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Duracoat. My 97 barrel Duracoat has held up for 6 years.
Hendo Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 I used to soak aluminum AN fittings with Easy-off to turn them black for hotrods I had built. Might work.
Cannon Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 I'd prefer cerakote over duracoat. Both are better than trying to "blue" the aluminum. I had a set done awhile back in cerakote in some gun metal color. Turned out great.
