High Spade Mikey Wilson
On Wednesday I decided to install a 15# hammer spring in one of my wife's Ruger New Vaquero pistols without the lock. The spring for the 2nd pistol is back ordered till mid September. Anyway it was a first time working on a RNV, and all seemed to go just fine, and it worked. However this morning I was online looking at a RNV parts breakdown when something caught my eye and I went "Oh Crap". I saw that the pawl plunger goes toward the cylinder, and I reinstalled it pointing toward the grip. Is this going to cause a problem if I let it that way or do I have to take the pistol apart again and correct it? Thanks!
J-BAR #18287
It should work fine until you are on the last stage of a major match that you have a chance to win, and then it will quit! Seriously, I don’t know, but I am slightly obsessive compulsive and it would bother me until I got it turned around. My father was a perfectionist and I must have the same gene. Cheyenne Ranger, 48747L
the pawl strengthens the spring as it comes out of the frame if you just have the spring coming out there is a chance that it will be bent/kinked with repeated use my 2¢
45 Dragoon
The plunger is the "bearing" surface so it needs to be against the pawl. The spring will eventually bend (if it already hasn't). Just remove the grip frame, turn the plunger around and re-install the grip frame. Mike
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Good chance of pitching and damaging the spring. Fix it ASAP. OLG
High Spade Mikey Wilson
Yeah it'll bug me forever if I don't correct it. Thanks folks.
Phantom, SASS #54973
Uhhhh...yeah... It's not a bi-directional part.
Cypress Sam, SASS #10915
Be sure to get the bolt spring in the right way too.
High Spade Mikey Wilson
Corrected the pawl spring. Took a grand total of maybe 5 minutes from start to finish. Now if only my second back ordered main spring would get here for the other pistol.
Assassin
I've never taken the grip frame off in order to change a mainspring.
