Allright.  Keep going down the line.  Where did Butt come from?

In this case, from the Latin, buttis, meaning cask.  For other uses it may be Dutch, Low German, or Old English, all roughly meaning "blunt" or "end."

Which in England is a "tonne," and weighs something different than our 2000 pound ton.  I don't recall what it weighs.

Tonne is what is used for "metric ton."  Roughly the same as what we now call a "long ton," about 2200 lb.  Interesting is that it used to be ton and short ton, what we now call a ton.

Butt comes from the expression people would utter when told they had to carry that heavy cask....”But, but, but I can’t lift that!” :D
